Connecting New Dots in the Network
By Marco Cassone, MSOD, OD Network National Board of Trustees, 2015
Summer is a time for vacations, BBQs and sunburns. With long days and short nights, the summer sun inspires growth everywhere--in kids and crops alike. For graduate and doctoral students, summer break is a chance to pause the study, ditch the library and soak up much needed vitamin D.
On campuses across the country, summer is a time of ceremony. With Pomp and Circumstance still ringing in the air, commencement speakers offer nuggets of wisdom to bright-eyed graduates: "You can't connect the dots looking forward," shared then CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs, at Stanford in 2005, "You can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future."
So, what do summer, Pomp and Circumstance and connecting dots have to do with the OD Network? Well, from this author's perspective--looking backwards as a recent ODEA graduate--EVERYTHING.

Participate Now in the OD Competency Validation Process!
Dear Colleagues,
Today we are launching a content validation study to empirically investigate the accuracy and relevance of the prototype Global OD Competency Model in describing the attributes needed by successful OD practitioners. As a practitioner, we want to know your perspective on the knowledge, skills abilities and other characteristics demonstrated by superior performers within the OD profession.
The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Your feedback is extremely valuable, as it will help us continue to provide the OD community with superior tools and resources to promote talent development and rigorous standards for our profession.
The survey will be available now through August 14, 2015.
Engage in the Dialogue
At 11:00 a.m. EDT on Thursday, July 23, Matt Minahan and Sherry Duda will engage with OD Network members to discuss the why, what, where, how and when of the OD Global Competency Model. Mark your calendar and join us in this lively discussion. Register today!
Also, please join us at the 2nd Annual OD World Summit on October 17-20, 2015 in Portland, Oregon as we reveal the results of our validation study.
We look forward to your participation!
Sincerely,
Matt Minahan and Sherry Duda

Kris Lea, Executive Consultant for KAI Partners
I have come to believe that work, in a formal organization, is one's greatest source of pride, inspiration and - sometimes - pain.
I have been interested in OD for a very long time as it is a source of balanced energy from the individual and the organization. While in OD, I have been able to experience a wide range of positive and negative things in organizations; but now I have the ability and expertise to help leaders of organizations to maintain healthy balances for organizational members.

Culture, Diversity & Inclusion
Article by Patricia A. Oceanic, MC, CDM
"Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane."
Our nation's landscape seems to be increasingly fraught with labored discussion around diversity, inclusion and the progress we have and have not made. Now, more than ever, the importance of understanding the concerns and issues connected to various communities who make up our society cannot be understated. Regardless of political position, it is exciting to know that we are faced with significant opportunities to discuss the spaces in which we are more or less inclusive in our practices.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has been upheld as constitutional by the Supreme Court. Explicit in the ACA is the language of providing equitable, quality health care for all communities defined in the "Triple Aim:"
- Improve the patient experience of care (both quality and satisfaction)
- Improve the health of populations
- Reduce the per capita cost of health care
