It's That Time of Year!

For many, this time of the year means reflecting on Thanksgiving, getting ready for the holidays, New Years and the Trade Shows that happen in January. I'm into all those things, but one strange thing that I do at this time is throw lawn seed and steer manure on the lawn. I really love the smell of this manure which may seem strange to most of you. Part of that is what it represents. To me steer manure goes beyond the fertilizing the lawn. I share the story in the resource article below. In addition to my gardening projects and growing my lawn, it's the time when we file away last years sales and work towards building next years sales. It's also trade show season! Whether you are going to Orlando, Las Vegas or Dallas, these industry events are a great way to start the year. In this issue we feature a piece on trade show etiquette you may find interesting. I Love the Smell of Steer Manure!

 My friends to the left are responsible for that great steer manure smell that I love so much!
One great thing about Southern California is the weather. It's sunny most of the time and we don't get intense storms like many parts of the country do.
I'm kind of a gardening nut, always planting flowers and I like to keep my grass healthy. Each year at this time, we put Winter Rye on our lawn. It's a simple thing to put down the seed with many bags of steer manure. Some find the manure smell disgusting, but being a bit odd, I kind of like it. I'm not sure why, but part of it is I know it helps the lawn stay healthy. The rest of this smelly story can be found here.

An old friend and business colleague, supplier Jay Busselle from Digital Art Solutions posted a Linkedin poll question asking why people go to trade shows.
The featured answers were:
- Nothing better to do
- "Scan my badge and send me 5 catalogs"
- Look for new ideas/new products
- Source new vendors/suppliers
- Participate in education/training
I have been to countless trade shows through the years. As I have visited with suppliers, other folks are often seen in the time-honored, trade show ritual of walking up to booths with their badge held out...asking the supplier to: " Scan my badge." It's a common line. Being the rabble-rouser I am, I had to be the one vote for "Scan my badge and send me 5 catalogs"in Jay's poll. As a supplier, Jay has experienced this a few times which is why I believe it was included as an answer...obviously in a tongue and cheek way. The rest of this article can be found here.
