This Thanksgiving...Consider What's REALLY Important! DogCatThanx

As we approach the Holiday season, we are deviating from our typical business focused content to touch on what's REALLY important in life. Our next issue will focus on the traditional business focused content we normally share.

This week Thanksgiving means getting together with family and friends, time that can be a blessing or a curse. Will Uncle Eddie get bombed and say something offensive? Or will you thoroughly enjoy visiting with family you may only see once a year? Most of us will be gathering around tables for a great meal. Football fans will be enjoying classic Thanksgiving match ups.

In other places, there are those whose normal lives have been displaced. Everything they had is gone in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. When we look at the incredible wide spread destruction of this hurricane, it's hard to imagine what this Thanksgiving and Holiday Season will be like for many people.

As we hang out in our comfortable homes, consider what it is like for those effected by this natural disaster. These events of course are nothing new. We've had Hurricane Katrina, Midwest tornadoes and in my neighborhood, the devastating Northridge Earthquake caused incredible damage.

Life happens. What makes our country great is the compassion and desire we have to help each other. In the wake of these disasters, our industry has risen to the occasion offering a variety of help.

In this issue, we will share just a bit about the efforts of the east coast Regional Association, Specialty Advertising Association of Greater New York (SAAGNY) and the Promotional Products Association International (PPAI). The SAAGNY area has been the most affected by Hurricane Sandy. The article below features pictures and stories of the area and we share how YOU can help your colleagues in this devastated area. The Regional Association Council RAC has also has 15 for the Fund, a program set up for situations like this.

Make it a great day and have an awesome Thanksgiving!

We are in an awesome industry that cares about one another! In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, we can see this in how our industry works together to make a difference in the lives of other
s.

Natural disasters negatively affect personal lives and disrupt business operations.

Before Hurricane Sandy, there was Hurricane Katrina, Midwest tornados and in my neighborhood, the devastating Northridge Earthquake that caused incredible damage.

Mike Michalowicz wrote an excellent article entitled, How I Ran My Business from a Hurricane Shelter. He refers to this storm as Hurricane Sandra, choosing to call by her full name, noting that he is a parent and he's mad at her. For him and thousands of other businesses, services may have come to a halt, but business has not.

Tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, fire. If your business was damaged by a natural disaster, what would you do?  Where would you turn?

These are the questions many of our industry colleagues have had to answer-which is why the  Regional Association's (RAC) Promotional Products Disaster Recovery Foundation's (PPDRF) Business Recovery Fund was re-launched in the summer of 2011.

Providing equipment, work spaces, supplies and basic essentials, the Business Recovery Fund gives companies the tools they need to get back to business. Donate to the RAC Business Recovery Fund. Help those in the promotional products industry who have suffered a disaster recover quickly. Click here for a video that talks about the Fund.
