Word: He started out his major league career as a lefty pitcher. He started well- in fact winning 20 games as a pitcher for his team. But what made him famous was his record and his outlook on life. For you see, for decades, George held the infamous major league record for strike outs, striking out 1,330 times in his 22 seasons in baseball. When asked about this, he said that "every strike brings me closer to the next home run." In fact, he hit 714 of them, and  George Herman "Babe" Ruth helped the New York Yankees to seven World Series Championships.
