After the Crash
After the Crash
by Michel Bussi

In December 1980 a plane crashes killing almost everyone on board instantly. The sole survivor is a three month-old baby girl. Two families, one rich and one poor, both claim the girl, sparking an investigation that spans two decades. The detective charged with solving the case is about to give up and contemplates taking his own life when the final piece falls into place. But will he live to tell it?

Sweetbitter
Sweetbitter
by Stephanie Danler

This novel is so raw, so real, I forgot I wasn't reading a memoir. 22-year-old Tess moves to New York City and lands a coveted job as a "backwaiter" at one of the most famous restaurants in New York. The training and hours are brutal, and you don't even learn her name until the middle of the book - she's referred to as "New Girl." She stubbornly latches onto one of the most experienced waitresses and gains an education in fine wine, incredible food, and how to be a server. How she handles her infatuation with the sexy bartender, all night partying with the restaurant staff, and navigating her chaotic new life makes for an unforgettable story.

Remembering the past, coping with loss and moving to create new memories are what this summer in Iron Creek is all about for Cedar, her Mom and brother Miles. This quiet story of dealing with grief and finding solace in friendship is wonderful.
