We have a very special event planned to celebrate our store's one-year anniversary. An Unlikely Story will host owner Jeff Kinney for a series of presentations on Sunday, May 29th. He will discuss the unlikely story of An Unlikely Story, including the ideas behind the project, the history of the building, and the journey leading up the store's opening last year. Following each presentation, Jeff will answer audience questions and sign copies of his books. For all the details, please visit the event page on our website. Our newsletter subscribers will be able to register a day before the general public.

One important character in our story is Longleaf Lumber, who provided the reclaimed wood in the building. They wrote a fabulous blog post about An Unlikely Story. You can read it here!

Bookseller recommendationsRecommendations
Kisten recommends:
In the 17th century, Sara deals with heartbreak by painting a haunting picture. In the 1950s, Ellie paints a forgery of it while it's owner deals with his own heartbreak. Fast forward to 2000 when Ellie's crime comes back to haunt her. This is a beautiful story of dealing with loss combined with suspense.

Alisa recommends:
Cold Sassy Tree
Cold Sassy Tree
by Olive Ann Burns

This story takes place in 1906 in the small town of Cold Sassy, Georgia. It focuses on how a scandal shakes the town and affects everyone in it. It is beautifully written, painting a cultural, historical, and wonderfully witty tale.

Lisa recommends:
Imagine Me Gone
Imagine Me Gone
by Adam Haslett

What happens to a family when a parent or sibling suffers from mental illness? What if both a parent and a sibling are afflicted? How does it shape the family dynamics? This wonderfully written novel will at times have you in tears but will also fill you with hope.
