Down the Rabbit Hole
Crane Tech was hired by a nationally recognized chemical manufacturer to train their employees at a master rigger level.  During training our instructor noticed that a key piece of information was missing from the synthetic sling tags...
Our instructor could have taken it at face value and gone on about teaching, but never one to leave things alone, he decided to follow the trail down the rabbit hole and found a little twisted tale of how a sling got thru at least three layers of quality control before landing on the plant floor.

We thought it might be helpful to share this example and challenge your thought processes regarding quality control and initial inspections of rigging gear in the week's Hooked On Crane Tech post:
We want to hear from you!

Does your employer have a periodic rigging inspection program, and is it followed?

Crane Tech Tip of the Week

Do not point load hooks.

When using a lever hoist (come-along), the hook is matched to the capacity of the hoist. However, when a hook is point loaded, the capacity is reduced to only 10% of its rated capacity.

Crane Tech Hosts CCO Digger Derrick Management Comittee
We had the honor to host the N.C.C.C.O. Digger Derrick Management Committee last week! They were able to enjoy our beautiful Florida weather while getting work done to keep operator certification running smoothly. The committee is made up of experts from

all aspects of Digger Derrick Operations. Among other things, they are responsible for reviewing and discussing questions to ensure written exams adequately test knowledge for digger derrick operators seeking their national certification.

Have a Safe Day,
