From Bo's Desk
I recently heard of multiple instances where individuals signaling cranes were not qualified signal persons... this surprised me, as it has been 5 years since OSHA required compliance with 1926 Subpart CC. Why is this? I don't know, but I do have some thoughts about it.

Click to read my opinion about why a qualified signal person is key to maintaining not only a compliant site, but one that is safe as well. --Bo

Crane Tech Tip of the Week

When shutting down an overhead crane NEVER leave the load block or pendant station where it is a hazard to employees or traffic in the area.

Raise the load block sufficiently to ensure it will not be struck. Next establish a safe location for the pendant control station, tie it back to a corner or wall if possible. Then turn of the main power disconnect switch and lock if necessary.
