Welcome to Crane Tech's newly improved newsletter...

The Weekly Tagline!

Congratulations are in order to Curtis Corley at Hunt Construction Group the winner of our name the newsletter contest!

Curtis is the proud winner of a $250 scholarship to a Crane Tech training program and an awesome selection of Crane Tech goodies. Most importantly he won bragging rights and will be a little part of our history.

Thank you to everyone who suggested names and voted in our contest! The race was a very close call and you may even see the runner up, Hooked On Crane Tech, again in the very near future.
So What Is A Tagline?
(and the Crane Tech Tip of the Week)
Since we are naming our newsletter after a common material handling term.... we thought maybe we should explore just what a tagline is.

OSHA §1926.1401 Definition of Tagline: means a rope(s) (usually fiber) attached to a lifted load for purposes of controlling load spinning and pendular motions or used to stabilize a bucket or magnet during material handling operations.

Essentially, taglines help to safely stabilize a load while enabling personnel to maintain a safe distance from the load. While they are recommended in most situations to prevent damage to the load, surrounding equipment or personnel, they should not be used if they create a safety hazard.

One of the most key things to remember about taglines, is that while they should be made out of non-conductive material, they can become conductive if they become wet or dirty. So it is key to keep these tools clean and dry. Crane Tech recommends braided polypropylene for its resistance to moisture and electrical current. This type of rope is easy to use, very efficient, reliable with most knots, and easy to untie.

Other safety tips to note when using taglines: remember to use gloves, do NOT wrap the tagline around any part of the body (including the arm or leg), and release the tagline if you are in danger.

What Our Student's Say...

"The instructors not only knew what was in the books but could provide real life experience as to what could happen in the field. The training didn't just give me answers to memorize for a test, but challenged me to learn new skills and prepared me for how it will be on the job by providing a realistic look at what it means to be a crane operator."
