Clarifying CCO Certification
What does it mean to be CCO certified?
A certified crane operator is not necessarily a CCO-certified crane operator. While there are other crane operator certifications available, only one organization--the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO)--provides the "gold standard" for operators. The NCCCO certification is known in the industry as the CCO certification.
Successful completion of the CCO certification requirements, informs the world that a crane operator is certified to the high standards of NCCCO. When done correctly, CCO certification has been shown to reduce accidents, save lives and reduce injuries. It also provides employers with a sound basis on which to base their assessment of crane operator competency.
What does it take to become CCO certified?
To be certified by NCCCO, candidates must demonstrate skills and knowledge that subject matter experts have deemed necessary for safe performance. Certifications are achieved through written examinations, practical exams, and by attesting to abide by NCCCO's Code of Ethics, Substance Abuse Policy and ASME B30 physical requirements.
Do I need training to become CCO certified?
NCCCO recognizes training as a key element in the certification process, and it encourages professional instruction in the knowledge and skills that define competency for those who work in and around cranes. When you trust Crane Tech to help you prepare for CCO certification, you can rest assure you are selecting a company who knows and understands what it takes to become CCO certified. Crane Tech has a long history with the NCCCO. We are a member of the NCCCO commission, volunteer hundreds of man hours annually to various NCCCO committees, and have hosted numerous committee and task force meetings. Our involvement with the NCCCO ensures that Crane Tech's CCO-certification preparation courses are developed based on the exact knowledge domains. Operators who successfully complete our preparation programs are better equipped for the written examinations. When operating a crane they will be able to make positive decisions regarding safety and control of their equipment. Upcoming Open Enrollment Courses Include:

What Our Students Say...
"I wanted to let you know how impressed I was with your trainer Without his support and knowledge I don't believe I would have made it through the course, since I have never been a crane operator."

Crane Tech Tip of the Week
Take pre-shift inspections seriously.
Perform a visual inspection from the hook all the way through the machine to the ground. Then exercise all functions and check limits--it's well worth the time to ensure safety.
Proper pre-shift inspections or an annual inspection would have identified the wear of this pin before advancing to this stage.
