POTL is a Great Experience, But Don't Just Take Our Word!
The Power of Ten Leadership Initiative is getting rave reviews from the people who know...former participants.

Watch  this video of Dr. Kristen Westergaard-Bladt of Council Bluffs, one of this year's POTL members, discuss the program.
POTL is an initiative designed to cultivate leadership capacity in young veterinarians.   The participants join a network of their peers in a series of learning experiences that help to enrich and benefit them, their practice, community, profession, and association.

If you are out of veterinary school less than seven years and want an opportunity to get involved in organized veterinary medicine, network with your peers and learn new skills, check out POTL! For more information on the POTL and the application form, please visit www.iowavma.org. The deadline for applications is July 1, 2016
Honor Those Who are Making a Difference
It's that time of year to consider nominating a deserving colleague for one of three annual IVMA awards. It is the IVMA's honor and pleasure to recognize members of our association who have made significant contributions to the veterinary profession, their clinic and the animals in their care.

We encourage you to take a moment and ask, "Who has made a difference?" and let us know about that extraordinary person.

The following awards will be given out at the IVMA Annual Meeting in September:
Veterinarian of the Year Award
Rising Star Award
Healthcare Team Member Service Award

For more information on any of the IVMA Awards and
nomination forms visit www.iowavma.org, click on "About Us" or call the IVMA office at 800-369-9564. The deadline for nominations is August 1st.
National Dog Bite Prevention Week May 15-21
This week is National Dog Bite Prevention week, sponsored by the AVMA. The goal is to build awareness and educate the public about preventing dog bites.
With an estimated population of 70 million dogs living in U.S. households, millions of people - most of them children - are bitten by dogs every year. The majority of these bites, if not all, are preventable.

Visit the www.avma.org to learn more about how to prevent dog bites and also how to educate others about this important topic. The AVMA has free downloadable pictures and videos available for your clinic to use on your website and social media sites.

There is also more information on the National Dog Bite Prevention Week Facebook Page.
Surgery on Butta the Meishan Pig - Dr. Schleining at Blank Park Zoo

Surgery on Butta the Meishan Pig (2 min 23 sec)
Our own IVMA President, Dr. Jennifer Schleining was featured on a video produced by the Blank Park Zoo showing how Dr. Schleining and the zoo's veterinarian, Dr. June Olds, performed surgery on Butta the Meishan Pig to remove her uterus. In the video, Dr. Schleining talks about why the surgery was necessary and how it went.
