The Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine SCAVMA (Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association) organization has developed a database to help bring veterinarians who wish to hire a summer intern together with ISU CVM students who are looking for summer internships.

The Student Summer Employment Database at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine was developed to provide first and second-year veterinary students with a resource to locate summer employment and gain valuable clinical experience. This program also aims to provide practitioners with a means to efficiently advertise their employment opportunities.

IVMA Members are needed to make this program a success!
If you are considering hiring a summer intern, now is the time to post the position on the database.  Click here for more information or to post a position.

The database will be on-going; therefore there is no deadline for submissions. However, for summer employment it is suggested that ads be placed by March 1, 2016.

If you have any questions about the form or the program, please contact the Iowa State SCAVMA IVMA representatives at
[email protected].

The goal of The Future Leaders Program is to develop the strengths and talents of veterinarians, promoting their leadership skills for the benefit of the veterinary workplace, society as a whole, and especially our profession through leadership in organized veterinary medicine.

The program is open AVMA members who are 15 years out of veterinary school or less (2001 or later).

The IVMA office is available to help with the nomination process.
The Internet is a staple in most homes these days, and clients have access to medical information-both genuine and quackery. The trouble is that they have no training to discern the good from the bad. Here's how you can communicate with clients who come in armed with information from Dr. Google. Read More in this article posted on DVM 360.com.
Resources available for National Pet Dental Health Month
February is more than National Pet Dental Health Month: It's also an opportunity for you to educate pet owners on the importance of good dental health and strengthen and extend your relationship with clients.

To help spread that message, the AVMA has a variety of tools to help you observe National Pet Dental Health Month in your clinic, including client handouts and brochures, social media tips and a press release for distribution to your local media. These resources remind the public that routine cleanings not only can help prevent periodontal disease, but also detect hidden health problems.
