AACSB Sustainability Conference Addresses Societal Challenges and Opportunities

Drs. Bennington and Oates attended the AACSB Sustainability Conference Sunday, June 22nd to Tuesday  June 24th and learned from thought-leaders and other business schools that make the role of business in society a priority, and contribute to an emerging vision about what business schools' role should be in addressing society's grand challenges. Conference participants discussed how business schools address global challenges in business education, research and outreach. Contemporary business schools are charged with equipping students with essential knowledge, skills and values and prepare future managers to make a lasting, positive impact on global economic development and the well-being of society. The conference revealed new strategies and best-practices in sustainability and explored b-school efforts to improve local and global communities.

The College of Business Administration current sustainability initiatives include an elective offering ("Marketing Sustainability") for undergraduate students, development of "Sustainability" certification in collaboration with the Colleges of Arts and Science and Education, attaining "Agarita" level sustainability certification for the college computer lab, involvement with Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) and empirical research conducted by college faculty. In the future, CBA faculty plan to integrate sustainability and corporate social responsibility across our business curriculum.
