Greetings!
The breezes of autumn are beginning to come regularly now. I urge you to pay attention, listen deeply, move with intention in the direction of your calling. It is time to embrace what really stirs us, to live deeply into that which adds meaning to our lives. Because it also adds depth and significance to the lives of those around us.
I am most mindful of this as I prepare for the presentation, "Exploring our Spiritual Roots," that I will offer in Salt Lake City next week at the Parliament of the World's Religions. My offering is not prescriptive or theological. Rather, it is about finding the still, small voice within that leads us back to passion. We can do so by engaging practices that connect us back to all life - humans and nonhuman living beings at their source - as naturally as tree roots living in the depths of soil find sustenance to thrive.
It is with a full heart and directed purpose that I send this newsletter to you this month. May you thrive as this season ripens; may you offer peace and compassion to a needy world.
Blessings,
Jennifer Wilhoit, Writing Mentor, Guide, Mediator

Spotlight: Finding Your Own "Note" in Writing & in Life
|
"Each string of a wind harp responds with a different note to the same breeze. What activity makes you personally resonate most strongly, most deeply, with the wind of the Spirit that blows where it wills?" We ought to sincerely consider this insightful question by David Steindl-Rast, co-founder of A Network for Grateful Living (dedicated to gratefulness as a transformative influence for individuals and society).
Especially pertinent now as the autumn winds come, what note will you sing? Last month I asked that you consider what distraction you might let go. Here I suggest tiny ways you can nurture, on a daily basis, that which does serve your passionate calling:
surround yourself with pleasing visual images
sit quietly
listen to your favorite music
walk in nature
send a kind note to a loved one
burn delicious smelling incense
swim or soak in warm water
take a ride in a scenic place
finish work ten minutes early
eat a delicious meal
daydream
journal
make art
When we add to our day just a few minutes of something that soothes our senses, we are brought closer to well-being and balance as well as nearer to our heart-centered passions. We are better able to serve the world when we have given something nourishing to ourselves. We are better able to handle adversity and the inevitable issues that come up. We find the song in our hearts, the notes we are meant to sing, that are our unique gifts for others.
