The 35th annual Concours d'Elegance of America at St. John's was a complete success!  Owners of 374 cars arranged them on the field after rain showers delayed the Saturday set up.  While exact numbers are not yet available, the crowd was estimated at over 10,000.  These visitors brought additional business to our community during the four days of Concours-related events.

WATERSHED WISDOM: CAR CARE
Did you know that washing your car in the driveway can have a negative affect on the Rouge River?  When you wash your car in your driveway detergents and soaps used will be washed with the water into the storm drains and travel directly to the Rouge River.  Once in the river they can cause excess plant and algae growth which will use up oxygen needed by aquatic life to live.

Try washing your car on the lawn.  Your grass will soak up the water and use the nutrients and look just as good as your car.

YARD WASTE GUIDELINES REMINDER:

With all of the recent rain and storms we are seeing a large amount of yard waste at the curb.  Here is a reminder of disposal guidelines:
  • Yard waste including leaves, grass clippings, vegetative pruning, garden waste, wood debris and brush can be set out to the curb by 7:00 am on your regular collection day and no earlier than 6:00 pm the night before your collection.  Roots from larger bushes should be cut off and placed with the trash.
  • Brush and branches up to 6 inches in diameter must be cut to 3 feet or less in length, tied and bundled with string or twine - no wire or plastic ties.  Bundles should not exceed 50 pounds.
  • Leaves and grass clippings can be put into paper yard waste bags available from various retailers, or in a 35 gallon or less container identified with a yard waste sticker or marked clearly with 2 large "X"s or "C"s on the container.
  • Filled containers should not exceed 50 pounds.
  • Take care to ensure that the label is clear and is facing the roadway.
  • Yard waste stickers are available at Township offices.

TRASH TIP: DID YOU KNOW that apples and other fruits are NOT considered yard waste?  They should be placed in bags or containers and set out with trash.  Filled containers should not exceed 50 pounds.
