FROM FATHER RASK

Our Faith Formation department and the St. Odilia Mission Band are making final preparations for the Parish Lenten Evening of Reflection tomorrow evening, Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. with David Haas. It should be a very special evening of music, prayers and reflection you won't want to miss!  More details are included in this Connection.

This Connection also contains complete information from our Worship department about Lenten Stations of the Cross, Community Reconciliation dates remaining in Lent, and the Holy Week/Easter schedules.  During this Year of Mercy Pope Francis encourages all Catholics to "place the Sacrament of Reconciliation at the center once more...."

Would you like to share your gifts of vision and leadership with your parish community?  St. Odilia is blessed with many parishioners willing to share their diverse gifts as members of our nine Ministry Area Councils (MAC).  If you would like to nominate yourself or someone you know to discern for a MAC council position, see the article in this Connection that includes a link to the nomination form.

Our Capital Campaign is making excellent progress and we recently passed the three million dollar milestone for pledges (including the pledge from the parish). If you've already made your pledge, thank you!  If you haven't pledged, please consider joining your St. Odilia family in supporting the parish expansion plans.

God bless you on your Lenten and Holy Week journey in the weeks ahead.

- Fr. Rask

Music opportunities for Holy Week and Easter

If you sing or play an instrument we invite you to join us for the services of Holy Week:

Singers - We form a special Holy Week Choir each year to sing for the Triduum services of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Saturday Easter Vigil - March 24, 25, 26. Services are 7:30 each evening. We have two rehearsals, Tuesday, March15, and Wednesday, March 23, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m in church. Even if you can't sing for all the services you are welcome to join us.

String and woodwind players - We form a small orchestra to play for the Good Friday Living Stations. The service is at 3:00 on Good Friday, March 25. We have one rehearsal on Thursday, March 24, 4:00 - 5:00 in church. The music is suitable for most levels of players.

We hope to have some new musicians join us for these services! Contact Dan Perry:
perry@stodilia.org, or 651-415-3346 for more information. Thanks!!

PALM FOLDING IS BACK!

Can you fold a palm into a rose, leaf, grape, or other form?  If you would like to share your skill with fellow St. Odilia parishioners, please join us on Palm Sunday following the 9:00 and 11:00 Masses in the Courtyard.  The Worship and Community Life Council in conjunction with the Latino community is once again providing space so everyone can share or learn traditional methods of palm folding. Please contact Kim Albrecht at albrecht@stodilia.org if you would like to share your talent.

DISCERNMENT FOR PARISH LEADERSHIP

We are again calling forth new leaders to serve on the councils.  We encourage and welcome new participation through a process of nomination and discernment.  Please see the link to the nomination form below.

Nomination and Discernment Process

Approximately 30 parishioners are needed to fill the open membership positions on the Ministry Area Councils. The process for nomination and discernment involves four steps:
  1. Nomination: "The Calling Forth of Gifts": You are invited to submit names of parishioners, including yourself, whom you feel would serve our community as a council member. A link to the nomination form is provided below and is also available in the kiosk in the church entry.
  2. Informational Meeting - April 24: Attendance is not required at this meeting, however, it is a great opportunity to express your interest and to learn more about each council and the impact that you can have in our community as a council member.  Specific details about the councils, member job descriptions, training, etc. will be provided. An information meeting about council participation will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2016.
  3. Personal Prayer: Becoming involved in a leadership position calls for spiritual discernment, a process which requires quiet personal reflection.  Allow yourself opportunities to prayerfully reflect on your personal gifts and how the Spirit of God is calling you to use those gifts.  All parishioners are invited to pray for those who will participate in the Evening of Discernment on May 17, 2016.
  4. Discernment Evening - May 17: Parishioners who have received a nomination letter and are willing to serve are invited to join current council members for a simple supper on May 17 in the Courtyard beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Nominees and council members will then gather in the church for prayer and will be sent forth to council meeting rooms for a time of discernment with the individual councils.

Information Session - 10:15 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. in the Conference Room

ST. ODILIA CHARITABLE OUTREACH

With your generous contributions made throughout the month using your "green" envelope, the Catholic Community of St. Odilia contributes to local, national and global charities. Together we are helping to make our local community thrive. As Paul quotes our Lord Jesus in Acts 20:35, "It is more blessed to give than to receive."

March Green Envelopes:
March is food shelf month. Please continue to be generous in your food donations to Sharing Korner Food Bank where volunteers from St. Odilia serve 15 to 20 families each week. St. Odilia has been supporting them for over 30 years. The green envelope contributions for March provide vital financial support to area food banks.

February Green Envelopes:
Your donations to the charity green envelope in February, are used to live out our corporal work of mercy to "feed the hungry."  St. Odilia supports the good work of the Catholic Charities Dorothy Day Center, Sharing and Caring Hands, and our own parishioners with gift cards for groceries. Thank you for your past support! Watch the bulletin for the report on the dollar amount contributed to this charity fund.

January Green Envelopes:
In January our parish contributed $1,953.00 for the Campaign for Human Development helping local causes such as One Roof Community Housing provide shelter and The East Side Development Company support worker-owned businesses.

Did you misplace your green envelope?
You can still contribute to the March food shelf funds that are supported directly by St. Odilia. Just make the check out to St. Odilia with "St. Odilia Food Shelf Ministry" in the memo line.
