FROM FATHER RASK

The 46th St. Odilia Fall Festival!

For 46 years we have been celebrating parish life the weekend after Labor Day. The weather was perfect, surely a gift from God.  The food tent as always was my favorite.  Corn dogs were new this year, and Fr. Stiles had challenged me to a corn dog eating contest, but he never showed up.  I suspect he knew he'd lose. He did manage to beat Jeanne Schaaf, our parish administrator, on the inflatables.  He is also talented with the hula hoop (see below).

Many thanks to all of you who worked so hard, before, during, and after the weekend.  Trish Brokman, Fall Festival Chairperson, was outstanding as usual in organizing the hundreds of people involved. She worked for many hours the weeks before the event. Thanks, Trish, for making the festival so much fun.

Jim Hermes was the food chairperson. (Jim, my doctor wants to see you!). Carissa Behrendt organized the thousand volunteers! Lynda Savard not only managed the Fall Jam and all the acts on Saturday and Sunday, but also performed herself. Judy Deppa-Elán and Eileen Gottwalt put together over 300 gift baskets for the Silent Auction. Colleen Moore set up the bid sheets.  They were gorgeous! What talent! I can hardly wrap a square box!

Jerry and Mary Ruhland prepared for the Live Auction, worked for hours during the auction, and got rid of all the treasures remaining after the auction. Many thanks to you and all of the other leaders: Kathy Laur, public relations; Tom Welna, facilities; Mark Reker for donations; Jim Rosenow for financial arrangements. Kathy Langer managed the Book Nook again. Did she get rid of a lot of books! Kathy Jax and Jenny Paterson sold produce at the Farmer's Market. I bought my share of Pat Kepper's pickles. Osvaldo Leon and Madel Rocio once again coordinated the Latino Foods for us. Spicy!

And thanks to so many, many others for making this such a special, fun event.  I know I enjoyed myself as did so many other parishioners.

- Fr. Rask

ST. ODILIA MUSICAL MINISTRY

The St. Odilia Musical Ministry Committee is excited to announce the 2016 musical production: THE HAPPY PRINCE, with music and lyrics by Caroline Dooley and David Perkins.  The Happy Prince is based on the well-loved story by Oscar Wilde.

  • Performance dates are February 4-7, 2016
  • Kickoff meeting is October 24, 2015 at 9:00 am with auditions following later that morning and continuing through Tuesday evening, October 27, 2015.
About, "The Happy Prince":  The Happy Prince is a touching musical based on the well-loved story by Oscar Wilde. The golden statue of the Happy Prince stands high above the city looking down on the misery and poverty beneath him. Desperate to bring hope and happiness to the poor people, he asks a swallow to distribute his gold and jewels to them. The generosity of the Happy Prince and the courage of the swallow help to overcome the greed of the powerful mayor and we are shown that the most precious things in life are often the least obvious.

Additional information regarding auditions for adults, teens, and youth 4th grade and older will be published in the church bulletin, the Messenger, and on the St. Odilia website as we get closer to kickoff time.

Every year the musical needs many hands to help with all aspects of production from sets, props, music, lighting, sound, publicity, hospitality, guardian angels, dinner theater, house management, ushering and much much more.  Look for upcoming information regarding how you can share your talents in this exciting and fun ministry!

Watch the parish bulletin and website for more information.  Any questions please call Jerry Ruhland at 763-785-2694.

ANNUAL MARATHON FOR
NON-PUBLIC EDUCATION
Join us in supporting the St. Odilia School Marathon with a pledge this weekend!

This weekend is your opportunity to show your support for the school and our parish by making a pledge to Fr. Rask and Fr. Stiles. On Sat., Oct. 3, they will participate in the annual Marathon for Non-Public Education (Marathon) to raise money for the school.

The Marathon is one of two primary fundraisers for St. Odilia School.  Last year the funds were used to purchase a new, adaptable math curriculum, online textbooks for students with additional learning needs, enrichment robotics programs for our primary grades, voice amplification systems for classrooms so all students can hear as if they were in the front row, and much more.

Please stop by the Marathon table in the Courtyard following the Sunday Masses on September 20 at 7:30, 9:00 and 11:00am! The Marathon Committee is serving coffee and donuts.  We welcome and appreciate your support.

OLD LOG THEATER BUS TRIP

If you like to laugh, eat a wonderful lunch and take a bus ride to see the fall colors, please join us on Wed., Oct. 21 at the Old Log Theater for the dramatic comedy of The Velocity of Autumn.

Alexandra, a 79-year-old artist, lives a solitary existence with her fleeting memories and is at an impasse with her family over how she should spend her autumn years. Her long absent son enters as a most unlikely mediator to try and save his mother's life as well as his own.  Funny and sweet, aching and revelatory, this perceptive play reveals both the fragility and ferocity of life.

Cost is $60 per person, which includes the play, your choice of four lunch entrees, and transportation. The bus leaves the St. Odilia parking lot promptly at 10:30am and returns by 4:30pm. Space is limited to 40 people.  Purchase tickets in the Courtyard after all Masses on Sept. 20  If you have any questions or to reserve tickets, contact Mavonne at 651-276-3317

FAITH FORMATION
THIS FALL

Online Registration for Faith Formation in 2015 - 2016 is now closed.

If you have a child that you would still like to register, follow these two steps:

1. You will need to go to the Faith Formation building (3510 Vivian Avenue) or the main parish office, to fill out a paper registration form. This will put your child on a wait list; they will NOT be in a class until notified.  The Faith Formation office is open Mon.-Fri., 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.  The main parish office is open Mon.-Fri., 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

2. Send an email to the individual program coordinator for the faith formation program(s) in which you want to enroll your child(ren). Include your name, children's names and their grade levels (programs desired), and the best way to contact you. Once your child is on the waitlist (step 1), program coordinators will be able to follow up with you directly. This may take up to two weeks while we launch programs. You should assume your child is on a waitlist until you hear otherwise from the program coordinator.

ST. ODILIA CHARITABLE OUTREACH
Stewardship Vertical

AUGUST GREEN ENVELOPE
The generous people of our parish contributed $2,006 to the August Charity Appeal using the green envelopes. Your gifts help support seven charitable organizations in our area for use in feeding, clothing, and sheltering those in need.  Thank you for sharing your treasure to be Christ for one another.

SEPTEMBER GREEN ENVELOPE
The September Green Envelopes are for the Sponsor-a-Student Scholarship.  This collection is divided between the St. Odilia School and Faith Formation.

Our St. Odilia School serves the parish community while welcoming families from all faith backgrounds to share the blessings of a Catholic school.  The school strives to make Catholic education available, accessible, and affordable in order to serve students of all economic backgrounds.

Every year we have many Faith Formation sponsored events on our church calendar.  In addition, there are scripture study programs, featured speaker programs for families, children and teens, preparation for Baptism, First Eucharist, Confirmation and more.  The nominal fees charged  for these programs don't always cover the entire expenses  so the green envelope contributions help make up the difference.

DID YOU MISPLACE YOUR GREEN ENVELOPE?
You can still contribute to the St. Odilia Sponsor-a-Student Scholarship fund.  Just make a check out to St. Odilia  with Sponsor-a-Student Scholarship fund in the memo line.
