FROM FATHER RASK

I am happy to announce that Father James Stiles will be the new parochial vicar at St. Odilia.  He was ordained a priest at the Cathedral on Saturday, May 30 and will begin his duties here on June 19.  His home parish is St. Mark's in St. Paul and he did his teaching parish at St. Charles Borromeo in St. Anthony. One Fr. James succeeds another Fr. James.  And they even look alike!  We will give him a warm St. Odilia welcome after all of the Masses with receptions on the weekend of June 20/21.

Fr. James Stiles & Fr. James Peterson

Fr. James will preach at all of the Masses on June 27/28.  There will be cake and coffee receptions for him after all of the Masses on that weekend. Our best wishes and prayers go with him in his new assignment.

Our Faith Formation department has many excellent summer programs available for children age four through grade 12.  Registration details follow.

It's not too early to begin thinking and planning for the Fall Festival on September 12 and 13.  You can start collecting items for the Silent and Live auctions and sign up to volunteer for a variety of venues.  They also have some leadership positions to fill as well.

Please mark your calendars for these and other important occasions in our parish and read on for more details.

You will be seeing some notices from the Archdiocese on bulletin boards, in the bulletin and on the parish website that pertain to the Chapter 11 Case. Every parish must post and distribute these notices informing people of the claim filing deadline on August 3, 2015.  Click HERE for more information.

SAVE THE DATE!

Farewell Receptions for Fr. James

After Masses June 27/28

Fr. James has accepted a new assignment in the Mission Parish in San Felix, Venezuela where he is needed to serve as the new Associate Pastor at the church of Jesucristo Resucitado. "Though I am looking forward to the adventures and ministry of the future my heart will always carry the happy moments and memories of my time here in Shoreview. In so many ways this is not 'Goodbye' but more like 'Hasta pronto' or in English 'We'll see you soon'."  Fr. James will be preaching at all of the Mass during that weekendAll are invited!

PLEASE WELCOME FR. JAMES STILES
Receptions after Masses on June 20/21

In a recent Catholic Spirit article he said, "I certainly think of celebrating Mass, the great joy that it will be to celebrate Mass," he said. "I'm very excited to hear confessions, to be able to absolve people of their sins and participate in that gift of mercy."

He also feels a strong call to evangelization, taking his cue from Pope Francis.  "There's a great need in our time to spread the good news," he said. "I think it's hugely important that the priest be doing this. All that he says and does should be geared toward this mission of inviting people to Jesus Christ, [and] into the Church."

We need to be ready to welcome them this fall.

You can help by becoming a catechist for Faith Formation. As you nurture the faith of our young, you will learn and grow as well! As one long-time catechist put it, "I learn so much from my students!" We provide you with training, materials, and support. Classes begin in late September.

ST. ODILIA CHARITABLE OUTREACH

"There is much that we can do to benefit the poor, the needy and those who suffer, and to favor justice, promote reconciliation and build peace." (Pope Francis)

May Green Envelopes:

During the month of May, we were asked to support "St. Odilia Outreach-Hunger".  In addition to our dedicated support to the Sharing Korner Food Shelf, this offering supports our charities and includes those looking for assistance with basic needs such as food (e.g., Dorothy Day, Sharing and Caring Hands, Ralph Reeder Food Shelf, etc.). There are always needs in these community outreach organizations and the people of St. Odilia are always there for one another. Through your generosity, the Catholic Community of St. Odilia contributed a total of $2,255 to St. Odilia Outreach Hunger.

Second Collection in May:

Thank you for your generous support of the Nepal Earthquake Relief from the Center for Mission.  The Catholic Community of St. Odilia contributed a total of $9,263.11.  The Center for Mission promotes and coordinates the global mission outreach of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

June Green Envelopes:

In June, the green envelope is for Peter's Pence.  The Peter's Pence collection unites us in solidarity with the Holy Father and his works of charity to those in need.  The quote (above) from Pope Francis addresses our responsibility  before the world.  The collection to the Peter's Pence allows the Holy Father to support victims of war, natural disasters and others in need of assistance. Join Pope Francis and be a witness of charity in the world. Be generous as the Lord is generous to us.  Thank you.

Did you misplace your green envelope?

You can still contribute to Peter's Pence.  Just make the check out to St. Odilia with "Peter's Pence" in the memo line.

CATHOLIC SERVICES APPEAL FOUNDATION UPDATE

Thank you to the 469 parishioners who have contributed $122,944 to reach our goal of $109,599! Now that we have reached our goal, 25% of all funds received from our parish will be returned for use to support our own ministries of worship, education and outreachContributions to the CSAF continue to be important to help us meet our 2014 giving level of $154,672.

One of the organizations funded by Catholic Services Appeal is the Venezuelan Mission where Fr. James will be serving.  In 1970, the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis began a mission in the Diocese of Ciudad Guayana, Venezuela. Over the past four decades, many priests from the archdiocese have served in various parishes and capacities in the Venezuela Church.  Since 1983, priests from St. Paul have been pastoring the parish of Jesucristo Recusitado (JCR) in San Felix.

Starting in early June, the CSAF is making phone inquiries to those who donated last year but not yet this year.

See the kiosk at the church entry for envelopes or to donate online through the CSAF website click HERE.
