Did you notice anything different with the November 5 City Commission Meeting items? The agenda process is a prime opportunity to highlight steps towards achieving Fast Forward Fort Lauderdale, our community's 2035 Vision Plan.  Holiday Solid Waste Services Schedule
All solid waste services will be provided on Thanksgiving, November 28-29, and on New Year's Day, January 1. There will be no collection service on Christmas Day, December 25. Garbage, yard waste and recycling service will be provided on the next regularly scheduled day. Bulk trash collection for residents whose regular pickup schedule is the fourth Wednesday of the month will receive service on Monday, December 30, 2013.  Turkey Bowl Hut, hut, gobble, gobble! Join us at the annual Turkey Bowl Saturday, Nov. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Carter Park, located at 1450 W. Sunrise Boulevard. Highlights from this free event will include: a DJ, live performances, bounce houses, youth and teen flag football games, a turkey giveaway and a canned food drive for the homeless. The SunTrust Sunday Jazz Brunch is an ideal way to relax and enjoy Fort Lauderdale's scenic Riverwalk from Esplanade Park to Riverfront. Geocaching Contest
The City of Fort Lauderdale announces its second geocaching contest, which is open to neighbors now until midnight on Tuesday, December 3, 2013. This exciting hi-tech competition will lead participants on a citywide treasure hunt as they search for ten geocaches hidden throughout Fort Lauderdale. Economic Development
The City of Fort Lauderdale is seeking public input for a Comprehensive Economic
Development Plan that will focus on six geographic study areas, including: the Galt Ocean Mile, the Uptown Business District, Sistrunk Boulevard, SE 17th Street and the Downtown Regional Activity Center.  Light Up Sistrunk
On Friday, December 6, historic Sistrunk Boulevard will become a Winter Wonderland full of holiday cheer. The festivities kick off at 5:00 p.m. and will include a tree lighting ceremony, photos with Santa, a Walgreens Toy giveaway, health fair, real snow, and local team mascots.  Fighting Crime
The City is working with IBM to be a leader in crime prevention and a national role model through the use of innovative police operations planning. Sunrise Bridge Replacement
The Florida Department of Transportation has begun construction to replace the Sunrise Boulevard bridge over the Middle River. The project is expected to be completed in early 2016. The City is implementing measures at Florence C. Hardy Park to meet the needs of our neighbors today and in the future. Beginning Monday, November 18, the playground will be closed for enhancements. Click here for more information on this park project.

New Fire Chief
The City proudly announces the appointment of Robert F. Hoecherl to the position of Fire Chief. Hoecherl has 37 years of experience in fire service, and has been with the City for 27 years. Regional Climate Leadership Summit
Fort Lauderdale recently hosted the Fifth Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit, an event that grew out of the groundbreaking Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact (SFRCCC). Mayor Seiler welcomed nearly 400 people to the event, which took place at the Broward County Convention Center on November 7 and 8, 2013.  November Artist
Fort Lauderdale proudly displays original artwork from local artists each month on the first floor of City Hall. For the month of November 2013, Fort Lauderdale selected Candy Childrey, a self- taught photographer with a degree in chemistry and mathematics. Be sure to stop by City Hall to see her art on display through the end of the month.

 Congress Passes Water Resources Act
The United States House of Representatives approved the Water Resources and Development Act by an overwhelming vote of 417-3. The bill, as amended, provides numerous economic benefits for the City of Fort Lauderdale, including key initiatives to stimulate job growth through an expansion project at Port Everglades, along with environmental measures to preserve, protect, and restore the Everglades. 2-1-1 Broward
The mission of 2-1-1 Broward is to provide 24 hour comprehensive helpline and support services to individuals and families in our community seeking crisis intervention assistance and/or information and connections to health and human services in Broward County. Last year 2-1-1 Broward answered 30,681 calls from Fort Lauderdale residents, and provided 38,317 referrals. Click here for more information on the program.
