Prepare for High Tides

Fort Lauderdale is a coastal community with low-lying areas and 300 miles of canal coastline. From time to time, we experience flooding associated with extreme weather events. Flooding can also occur as a result of seasonal high tides. NOAA is advising that we should expect higher than average tidal levels now through Sunday, October 20. High sea levels can lead to minor coastal flooding, especially along the Intracoastal side of the Barrier Islands. Water levels will continue to run between half a foot to a foot above normal, around high tide through the weekend. Please refer to the City website for important information regarding seasonal high tides. Neighbors are also encouraged to monitor www.weather.gov for timely information on active weather alerts and forecasts from NOAA and the National Weather Service.
