Looking toward the future, students, parents, community members, city officials, school board members and Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District administrators are working together for the benefit of all students.

 

These collaborative efforts are part of the district's goal to establish a strategic plan to set the course for schools for the next three to five years. To accomplish this goal, district officials are working with individuals that represent all aspects of the community by facilitating discussions through events and forums.

Teacher of the Week: Bouls keeps minds and bodies active at HCISD
 

 

Gracie Bouls believes that an active mind is a product of an active body, and she practices that philosophy every day with her students.

 

Bouls is a Physical Education teacher at Bowie Elementary School. For over 10 years, she has worked to find new ways to get her students up and active. It's a passion she's had since a young age when she would help her fellow classmates with whatever she could.

Sam Houston chess team outsmarts the competition at girl's state tournament
  

 

The girl's on the Sam Houston Elementary Chess Team proved that they some of the best in the state during the Girl's State Chess Tournament on Oct. 5.

 

Teams from across the Rio Grande Valley gathered at the tournament hosted by St. Pauls, and Sam Houston was able to walk away with multiple team and individual awards.

HHSS Marching Band named showcase champion

 

The Harlingen High School South Marching Band hit all of the right notes at the Fifth Annual Deep River Marching Showcase in Rio Hondo on Oct. 5.

 

The band took home first place in the 5A marching division and was named Grand Champions of the entire contest.

HCISD invites the community to help shape our future

 

The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District invites the community to provide their input for a strategic plan that will shape the district's next three to five years.

 

The district is hosting a survey community members can take to share their thoughts on the future of public education. The survey will be available until Oct. 15.

Board approves HHS Assistant Principal, donation of land to AG Program

 

 

During their regular meeting on Oct.9, the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the hiring of the Assistant Principal at Harlingen High School and a donation of land to the district's AG program.

 

Patricia Muniz was hired as the Assistant Principal at HHS. Muniz had served as the school's counselor since 2003, and has held the positions of teacher and counselor at San Benito ISD and Donna ISD.

The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District invites the community to submit nominations for the name of the district's new School of Health Professions opening Fall 2014.
