This year, Travis Elementary School is continuing an initiative that will help students develop their leadership skills for future success.

 

The campus will continue with the Leader in Me initiative, which is a school-wide model that focuses on an environment of student empowerment through the development of leadership skills.

Teacher of the Week: Prechel's experiences keep getting better at HCISD

 

 

Bethany Prechel has taught in three different states to thousands of students, and each year, she says her experiences keep on getting better.

 

Prechel is a second grade teacher at Bonham Elementary School. While there for almost six years, she's been able to share her experiences with her students and campus.

HCISD Board of Trustees approve internal search for future superintendent
 

 

At a special noon board meeting on Oct. 1, the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the posting for the position of Superintendent of Schools for HCISD.

 

The board unanimously voted to limit their search to individuals currently employed by HCISD.

The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District invites the community to submit nominations for the name of the district's new School of Health Professions opening Fall 2014.

HEB donates $8,500 for district digital initiatives 

             

 

 The students at the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District are getting a little help from HEB to continue learning in 21st century environments.

 

During their grand re-opening, HEB presented an $8,500 check to HCISD to assist the development of the district's digital literacy initiatives.

HHS Marching Band take two contests in one day

 

The sounds of the Harlingen High School Marching Band could be heard in the air as they achieved another outstanding performance on Sept. 28.

 

The HHS Marching Band competed against over 30 schools from across the Rio Grande Valley at two regional marching contests where they showed their skills and earned some of the competitions' most prestigious awards.

HHSS earns high marks at third TFA tournament 

 

 

The Harlingen High School South Speech, Drama and Debate Team traveled to Anderson High School in Austin to compete in their third Texas Forensics Association (TFA) State Qualifying tournament this year on Sept. 28.

 

Students placing in the competition were senior Jann Soto with sixth place in Domestic Extemporary, first place in Original Oratory, and second place in Student Congress.
