Students at the Dr. Abraham P. Cano Freshman Academy looked to their futures during a special visit from the Chancellor of the University of Texas Systems Dr. Francisco Cigarroa.

 

During his visit, Dr. Cigarroa focused on the new university that will unite the University of Texas at Brownsville, the Regional Academic Health Center in Harlingen and the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg.

HCISD hosts Strategic Planning Community Summit to pave way to future success

  

 

The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District invites the community to come and help pave the way for the future during the Strategic Planning Community Summit on Oct. 1.

 

The summit is an opportunity for community members and district leaders to come together and discuss plans for success for the next three to five years.

 HHS senior named 2013 Junior Agricultural Ambassador by USDA

 

Climbing fast in the field of Agriculture, Harlingen High School senior Morgan Martin was named 2013 Junior Agricultural Ambassador by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

 

From the beginning of her high school years Martin showed her interest by joining the Future Farmers of America (FFA). Competing and placing at such events like the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show, reinforced her passion for agriculture and farming.

Sam Houston student holds his own with chess grandmaster
  

Jacob Fox, a fourth grade student at Sam Houston Elementary, is making all the right moves in the game of chess. So much, that one of the greatest in the world has taken notice.

 

Fox was recently selected to play with Grandmaster Timur Gareev during a special Blindfold Simultaneous Exhibition at the Laura Bush Library in Austin on Sept. 21.

Over 3,500 participants attend new look wellness event

With a revamped Health and Wellness program launched this year, Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District welcomed over 3,500 attendees to the HCISD and Valley Baptist Health System Wellness Kickoff and Fun Run Challenge Monday night at Boggus Stadium.
