Fourth and fifth grade students in the newest club at Stuart Place Elementary take time out of their day to learn that it's never too early to start giving back to the community.

 

The campus organization is called the Kids Care Club, and its mission is to help their campus and community in any way they can. There is no job too small or big for the organization. They often show their kindness by picking up litter in their classrooms or helping out during campus functions.

Lee Means comes together for holiday reading

               

The students of Lee Means Elementary School gathered for a special holiday themed POP STAR Reading session on Dec. 12.

 

Students from all grade levels celebrated in the library for an hour of story time.

 KEYS students take top honors at RGV Birding Festival

                

The students at KEYS Academy took home top honors for their artistic abilities at the 2012 Valley Morning Star/Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival.

 

Adrian Sanchez received first place and Elizabeth Gomez took home second place in the Art 1 category.

Barbara Claybourn wasn't your typical child, and in place of action figures and dolls in her toy closet, she had a chalkboard.

 

"I've wanted to become a teacher since the third grade, but if you ask my mom she'll say first," Claybourn said.

HHSS decathlon team has strong performance at academic competition
        

 

The Harlingen High School South decathlon team had an outstanding performance at the San Antonio Holmes Competition on Dec. 8.

 

Matthew Waters received first place in essay and fourth place in language and literature. Austin Lambert placed fifth in speech.

The Coakley Middle School's Orchestra showed off their talents to the elementary school students of the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District on Dec. 13.

The senior class at Harlingen High School South took time to come together and celebrate the holidays on Dec. 11.

HHS and Zavala choirs perform for Harlingen Community
 

        

Choir students at Zavala Elementary School and Harlingen High School used their talents to spread holiday cheer across Harlingen on Dec. 12.

 

The choirs performed at Valley Baptist Medical for patients and staff as part of their Christmas celebration. Their set list brought smiles to those who attended.
