Cafeterias and gymnasiums were filled with pride as students, staff and administration at the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District took time to thank those who gave them their freedom.

Campuses showed their appreciation for those who served in the armed forces by hosting Veterans Day Celebrations on Nov. 9 and Nov. 12.

HHS and HHSS Football make history: Teams named district 32-5A champions

 

  

 

The Harlingen High School South Hawks and Harlingen High School Cardinals have made history by being named the co- champions for District 32-5A.

It is the first time since the campuses were separated in 1993 that they share the district crown. This is the fifth consecutive year that HHS has held the title

Person of the Week: Hooper hits the right note at HCISD

 

       

Jason Hooper spends most of his days surrounded by music. Whether it's at his day-job, performing with musical groups or just practicing at home, he always has a tune playing in his head.

Hooper has turned his passion for music into his career by working as the Director of orchestral studies at Harlingen High School South, Coakley Middle School and Vela Middle School

HHSS Robotics Team finishes strong at region competition

           

The Harlingen High School South Robotics Team traveled Dallas to compete in the Texas Boosting Engineering, Science & Technology (BEST) Regional Robotics Competition on Nov. 9.

 

Of the 64 champion teams from across Texas and New Mexico competing, HHSS placed 43rd.

Middle school bands earn top marks at All City Band Audition 

     

 

The middle school band students of Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District left their mark at the middle school All City Band Auditions.

 

A total of 94 chairs were awarded to 7th and 8th grade students from Vernon Middle School, Gutierrez Middle School, Coakley Middle School, Vela Middle School, and Memorial Middle School.

HHS student named Channel 5's Student of the Week

 
     

 

Omar Hunter works to be the best be can be, and it has not gone unnoticed.

Hunter was named Channel 5's Student of The Week, which recognizes the top students in the Rio Grande Valley. For being named Student of the week, Hunter received a $1,000 scholarship.

Sam Houston leaves impression at chess tournament

            

The HCISD chess teams left an impression at their most recent tournament hosted by Ed Downs Elementary on Nov. 10.

 

The Sam Houston Elementary team competed in the high school division and placed fifth overall. A total of 103 teams attended the tournament.

Gutierrez ACE students take lesson in bird watching
  

 

 Students from the ACE program at Gutierrez Middle School had their heads up in the sky for a day of bird watching.

 

The bird enthusiasts in training  had the opportunity to attend the 19th annual Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival. The festival showcased everything birds, and is educational for all individuals involved.

HCISD Wellness Walk 2012  

  

 

KHGN photographers captured all of the excitement as HCISD's students, faculty and administration took a step towards health at the  2012 Wellness Walk. 

 

The walk is the kick-off event to the District's year long wellness program.

HCISD invites community to help name 9th Grade Academy

 

 

HCISD invites the community to submit nominations for the name of the district's new 9th Grade Academy opening Fall 2013.
