The sounds of gears in motion and remote controlled generators filled the air as high school robotics teams from the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District and across the Rio Grande Valley gathered to test their robots for upcoming battle on Oct. 13.

 

Texas State Technical College (TSTC) hosted its annual Demo Day, which allows teams to assess the progress of their robots before the RGV Boosting Engineering, Science & Technology Robotics High School Competition.

Rodriguez Elementary student selected to have artwork published

 

    

 By the age of six, Christina Ruiz can say she is a master at simple arithmetic and a published illustrator.

 

Ruiz, a first grade student at Rodriguez Elementary School, was selected by The Driscoll Children's Hospital to have her art published in their holiday book The Legend of the Christmas Star.

Person of the week: Corona and Ciro team up for HCISD

       

 

John Corona and his dog, Ciro, get noticed wherever they go, but Ciro always seems to steal the show.

Corona and Ciro, the K-9 drug prevention officer and dog at the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District, work daily with each campus to help keep them drug-free.

Superintendent Dr. Steve Flores speaks to freshmen about the road to graduation

 

          

For some students, their first year of high school can be daunting, but with a little advice they will have a better idea on how to set themselves up for a successful future.

HCISD celebrates Robot Week 2012

 

 

Starting Oct. 22, the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District will be celebrating Robot Week.

The week will showcase a variety of stories, photos and videos related the robotics teams and their robots as prepare for the upcoming RGV BEST Robotics High School Competition.

HHS and HHSS girls' choirs awarded chairs in the District Treble Choir

 

          

The girl's choir at Harlingen High School and Harlingen High School South were awarded a total of 12 chairs at the Region 28 High School Vocal Division District Treble Auditions on Oct. 13 
 
Both HHS and HHSS had six girls make it to the District Treble Choir.

HCISD chess teams awarded at district's first tournament  

 

         

Students from the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District outsmarted competition at the district's first chess tournament on Oct. 13.

 

A total of nine teams from HCISD placed in their division. Over 200 students participated in the competition.

HHS and HHSS Marching Bands awarded at Pre-Pigskin Jubilee
   

    

The Harlingen High School and Harlingen High School South Marching Bands were awarded for their strong performance at the Pre-Pigskin Jubilee contest on Oct. 13.

 

HHS was named Grand Champion. HHSS received fourth place and was awarded for best colorguard.

HCISD photographers documented all the excitement at the Hawks homecoming game on Oct. 12. The team was victorious over the Brownsville Hanna Eagles.
