Greetings!

A Message from CEO, Mike Balsamo

Many of you are aware of how critical BIA's political advocacy is to our industry's success. Each of our Chapters has prepared a member voter guide for the November election. Please refer to the Chapter websites for this information. Of paramount importance, please remember to vote yes on Proposition 51, the statewide school bond!

It is with great pride that I share some information on a series of amazing upcoming BIA events. This Thursday our Baldy View Chapter is holding an Elected Officials reception where members are given the opportunity to meet elected officials from all levels of government; federal, state & local in a relaxed network setting. That same evening, the 55 Plus Housing Council is having their 22nd Annual SAGE Awards at the Turnip Rose Promenade and Gardens.

The Orange County Chapter is hosting an Urban Infill & Multi-Family Committee Workshop, on October 26th, where attendees can hear about the history of the Billion-dollar Platinum Triangle infill project from builders LT Global and Lennar as they take you through the incredible details; and on October 27th our Los Angeles/Ventura Chapter is thanking our members at their Member Appreciation Night.

Our biggest event of the year is the Building Industry Show taking place November 9th and 10th.This year the show is evolving to do more than provide a place for building industry professionals to catch up with colleagues and network.

We are rolling out a new format at this year's Building Industry Show and will be addressing a broad cross section of key issues faced by building industry professionals. Our pop-up education section will create a space where member professionals can learn and discuss relevant topics to their careers.

Perhaps of greatest significance right now, we will have a "Skilled Labor Brain Trust" panel focusing on bringing together trade educators, subcontractors and builders to strategize on long-term solutions for the industry labor shortage on Wednesday, November 9th from 1:30pm to 3:00pm at the Show.

As we approach the end of another great year for our association, I encourage all of our members to visit BIASC's website and look at the wonderful calendar of events that we have planned before the holiday season and make plans to participate!

BIASC's Director of Environmental Affairs Invited to Present at the 2016 San Gabriel Valley Water Forum

Mark Grey, Ph.D, Director of Environmental Affairs at the Building Industry Association of Southern California and Technical Director of the Construction Industry of the Coalition on Water Quality was invited by the San Gabriel Municipal Water District to present at the 2016 San Gabriel Valley Water Forum on September 20, 2016.

The forum arrives during a time when the current drought is demonstrating the potential to create extreme conditions for our water supply, environment, public health and economy in the San Gabriel Valley. The event invites industry experts to think about solutions regarding the water supply that may be faced with shortages, but other significant drought-related impacts are on the horizon.

There are some new and amazing things happening at BIS this year
This year the Building Industry Show (BIS) is planning a new format by engaging attendees with informative discussions. The show is evolving to do more than provide a place for building industry professionals to catch up with colleagues and discuss new job prospects. What's different about this year's Building Industry Show is that BIASC is addressing a broad cross section of key issues faced by industry professionals.

BIS is "Starting the Conversation" by adding insightful Pop-Up Education presentations that cover a range of topics from discussions of how mobile apps are transforming home building; what you need to know about solar: code requirements to future trends; advanced framing techniques; minimizing costs & increasing efficiency; CEU workshops; to design trends for 2017. We look forward to you attending the show at the Riverside Convention Center November 9th and 10th.  Check out what else is coming to BIS 2016 by clicking here.
