A Message from CEO, Mike Balsamo
We are entering into the fall season following a summer of fantastic BIA networking events. Our regional building industry professionals were honored on Saturday, September 10th at the Greater Sales & Marketing Council's 2016 SoCal Awards at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. In front of an audience of over 600, more than 50 awards were given out to the winning finalists for achievement in sales, marketing and design throughout the Southern California home building industry.
The Baldy View Chapter's Educational Summit on September 8th at Chaffey College turned into a great opportunity to have a regional discussion on education. Riverside County Chapter's Golf Tournament and Wine Tour in Temecula gathered friends, builders, clients and co-workers for a dinner banquet with plenty of festivities and networking. Orange County Chapter's Craft Beer & Classic Cars Networking Night was a fun event to get to know fellow BIA members, and the Los Angeles/Ventura Chapter's House L.A. 2016 tackled affordable housing issues with an insightful discussion. Looking forward, the California Homebuilding Foundation (CHF) and HomeAid Orange County will be bringing industry leaders together for a great day of golf, food, and drinks in the month of October for the annual Caddyshack golf tournament on October 10th and, last but certainly not least, we're "Starting the Conversation" at the Building Industry Show (BIS) in November. This year BIS is planning a new format by engaging attendees in Popup education discussions. The show is evolving to do more than provide a place for building industry professionals to catch up with colleagues and discuss new job prospects. What's different about this year's Building Industry Show is that we are addressing a broad cross section of key issues faced by building industry professionals. In addition, we will have a keynote lunch speaker, Tim Kane of MBK homes. You also won't want to miss our annual pub crawl and the installation of Peter Vanek of Meritage Homes as your new BIASC President. I encourage all of our members to join the conversation by attending the show on Wednesday, November 9th and Thursday, November 10th at the Riverside Convention Center. We look forward to seeing everyone there.

BILD Helps Win Case Supporting Funding of Storm Water Programs
|
After several years of administrative and courtroom battling, the California Supreme Court handed down a decision on August 29, 2016, that promises to relieve pressure on the building industry to fund costly storm water quality programs throughout the state.
BILD Foundation was involved in each stage of the litigation, filing friend of the court briefs supporting the argument that the terms of the storm drain permits extend beyond federal requirements, are imposed at the discretion of the state, and are, thus, subject to reimbursement by the state.
The goal of the BILD briefs was to support the local governments, ensure access to funding of the local programs, and thereby relieve some pressure felt by the building and construction community to contribute to the funding of these costly programs.

Start the Conversation at BIS
|
This year the show, taking place on Wednesday, November 9th and Thursday, November 10th at the Riverside Convention Center, is doing just that by addressing key issues faced by working building industry professionals in the BIA.
