Friends of Montview,

Our neighbors at Shorter AME Church are organizing a Faith Walk this Friday in response to the shootings at Emanuel AME in Charleston.  This tragedy underscores the importance of our ongoing work with Shorter to build relationships and cross the lines that separate us.  It also challenges us to examine and expose racism wherever we find it and to again ask ourselves what role guns should play in our society.  I hope you can join the walk in an expression of care, solidarity and faith.  Below are the details.

Blessings,

Pastor Ian and Pastor Dee

This past Sunday in response to the massacre at Emanuel AME in Charleston, Rev. Dr. Timothy Tyler of Shorter AME in Denver exhorted his congregation to return to their social justice roots:

"It's not enough to send notes or flowers.

It's not enough to sit up in church on Sunday,

we need to be in the streets.....

When you pray with me, march with me, Stand with me!"

Letting no grass grow under their feet in this call to action, Shorter, joined by other faith leaders, is leading a prayer and faith walk this coming Friday, June 26th.  This is the first of five such walks that will visit nearby communities in north Denver that are struggling with gun violence.

Prayer Walk Specifics:  We claim this land for God!

Although the format of the walk is faith-based, it should be accessible to people of all faiths or no faith whatsoever.

Date:  Friday, June 26th

Time:  6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

Place:  Cure d'Ars Catholic Church

3201 Dahlia St., Denver (corner of Martin Luther King Blvd. and Dahlia St.)

Activities:  Gathering reflection, followed by walking approximately 1.5 miles, singing, praying and conversing with residents to invoke peace in the community.  The walk will end back at Cure d'Ars.

Request:  No signs or banners.

Later walks will be on the following Fridays (skipping the July 4th weekend).
