Dear Members,

 

Like millions of Americans, I am preparing to celebrate the upcoming Independence Day holiday weekend and what it represents: our freedom as a nation. This freedom is a precious thing, bought with the blood, sweat, tears and prayers of countless Americans.  Freedom is not free. 

 

Even as we prize our freedom to "Question, Think, Serve, and Grow" (let alone worship, speak and love), we are moved to consider a greater freedom - the freedom that comes from knowing the truth which will truly set our hearts free.  

 

The irony of this freedom through Christ is that to be truly free we need to be fully dependent on God and interdependent with our fellow Christians. Yes, freedom is not free. It requires choosing against what secular culture touts as freedom. "Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand!  Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you." (Galatians 5:1, The Message)

 

This is what Montview Church offers you: the spiritual freedom to "Question, Think, Serve and Grow" and the interdependence with others in the faith community as you work through what that means in your individual and communal life.  

 

Next week - and Forever - Enjoy Your Freedom in Peace, knowing that "...where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." (2 Cor 3:17)
