Welcome Rev. Dr. Dee Cooper!
We are pleased to announce that Montview's Lead Pastor for Congregational Life for the Interim Period will be the Rev. Dr. Dee Cooper. Dee has been serving the last seven years as the Pastor and Head of Staff at Church of the Hills Presbyterian Church (USA) in Evergreen, CO, where she helped the church grow from 75 members to over 300. Dee will spend the next several weeks saying goodbye to her congregation and preparing them for their next chapter. She will begin at Montview on October 1st and will be in worship on October 6th.
Dee graduated with a Doctorate of Ministry from San Francisco Theological Seminary, in San Anselmo, CA a Master of Divinity degree from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in Hamilton, MA and a Master of Educational Psychology degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX.
She has had a wide range of professional experience including over 21 years in private practice as a Clinical Licensed Marriage and Family therapist. She has served churches in Lowell, MA, (200 members) Wichita, KS (700 members), and Brentwood, CA (1,600 members). She also worked for several years in Higher Education Administration, as the Assistant Dean of Students at a mid-western university, advising fraternities and sororities.
Dee is currently serving as the Vice-Moderator for the Denver Presbytery, has served on the Committee on Ministry (as moderator for 2 presbyteries) and on the Committee on Preparation for Ministry at the Synod level, she helped implement training for sexual misconduct response teams and taught courses established for ministers in their first years. On the national level, she has twice been elected as a delegate to General Assembly, has been an ordination exam reader for many years, and served a congregation that won the Urban Church of the Year at General Assembly.
Dee's passions include her beloved Golden Retriever, Maggie, and her various animal connections. She loves to bike, swim, and explore.
Her sabbatical and post sabbatical adventures include playing with lions in South Africa (yes that's a lion cub in the photo), swimming with dolphins in the wild in Bimini, working with wolves in Divide, CO and working with horses and equine therapy. Her long range dream is to launch a national non-profit, Sophie's Spirit, a human-canine response team for those experiencing trauma or natural disaster.
