Greetings!
The Rev. Dr.Cynthia Cearley

Lead Pastor of Congregational Life

Friends,

Church bells and chimes are traditional and beautiful.  I hope you've had a chance to hear our Montview carillon ring following worship each Sunday.  The recently restored carillon was a gift to us with the congregational memorial money given in remembrance and in honor of the late Jerry Protextor.  Jerry's family generously added funds, so that the carillon could be restored to working order.  Jerry was a dedicated Montview member who worshipped and participated at Montview for many years.  He and Rose were especially supportive of our youth program during the time I was blessed to lead it.

I write to encourage you to listen for the bells if you haven't heard them.  Like so many other gifts at Montview, the carillon symbolizes the living community of Montview, and reflects the faithfulness and generosity of many.  Our building and its programs are a witness to the many folks who quietly and willingly give of themselves to make this a community of hope and joy.

I pray you find solace and beauty in the bells and in this shared community of Montview.

Blessings,

Cindy

The Rev. Ian Gregory Cummins
Lead Pastor of Spiritual Life

"There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and  female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus."

-Galatians 3:28

These famous words from the Apostle Paul are truly remarkable, even to our modern ears. Paul  speaks them within a larger conversation about the importance of faith over law. Our shared  faith, he says, is much more important than the categories that the world uses to divide us.

What categories do think most powerfully divide us today? Conservative and liberal, maybe? Immigrant and native? Wealthy and poor? Do you believe your faith encourages you to challenge those divisions? If so, how?

Grace and goodness,
Ian
