The Rev. Dr. Cynthia Cearley
Lead Pastor of Congregational Life
Friends,It isn't often that we have the chance to show our appreciation, in a grand way, to someone in our midst who regularly and beautifully enriches our lives. On Sunday, March 3rd at 4:30 p.m., we have that opportunity. You, and others who are grateful for the ministry of John Kuzma, are invited to celebrate him, his work and ongoing ministry at a "Kennedy Center" type event in our Montview Sanctuary. Friends and colleagues of John's through his last 40 plus years will speak, sing, and play to honor him for his gifts and spirit.Below is the invitation, which I hope you will forward to friends and visitors of Montview. There is no cost for this evening of entertainment and gratitude; simply a chance to say thank you to John and let him know of our love and admiration. I hope to see many of you there!Cindy______________________________
There are few times in a person's life which appropriately occasion that person's being honored with love, respect, and enthusiasm by colleagues, friends, and supporters from both the honoree's history around the country and his present activity. Montview is pleased to extend to you this special invitation to attend a celebration of the life, industry, dedication, and abilities of
John Kuzma
honoring his twenty-five years as Minister of Music at Montview Church, and his consistency as a gifted organist, enthusiastic conductor, adventuresome composer, supportive colleague, patient encourager of children, teacher of the unfamiliar, active upholder of the Faith, and always an articulate voice for the value of music in church and community. Please be aware that this is not a retirement celebration, nor is this plan being developed in secret. John anticipates being at Montview several more years, having not yet carried out his numerous new ideas or walked some less traveled roads using music to extend Montview's presence in the community. Join us at 4:30 p.m. in the Montview Sanctuary, 1980 Dahlia Street, on Sunday, March 3rd. It promises to be a wonderful event for participants and attendees alike! There is no cost for the event; an opportunity will be provided to honor John with your gift to the Montivew Sacred Music Endowment. We are in hopes that you can join us!

The Rev. Ian Gregory Cummins
Lead Pastor of Spiritual Life
Hi Everyone,
As we move into Lent, I am planning two sermons on the topic of "forgiveness" as a follow-up to the two sermons recently preached on violence. This Sunday we will explore what it means to forgive others and then next Sunday, March 3rd, we will look at forgiving ourselves. If we look closely at the Gospels we see that much of Jesus' teachings, stories, and parables relate to forgiveness in one way or another. It seems to speak to just how important forgiveness is on our spiritual path. The text for this week comes from Paul's letter to the church at Colossus. While much of Jesus' words on forgiveness pertain to divine forgiveness, which we'll take up next week, Paul is interested in human forgiveness as he tries to help the young communities of faith learn to live in harmony. Here's the text we'll look at:
"As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone, has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you."
- Colossians 3:12-13
I invite you to spend some time this week praying and reflecting on those in your life that you are struggling to forgive. Then on Sunday we'll consider more closely what it means to "bear with one another" as we journey together.
Grace and goodness,
Ian
