Associate Pastor

Hello everyone,

Montview Church has many ways to offer you connection and partnership. I would like to raise up two programs; one that we have been involved in for the last seven years and the other is a new possibility.

Family Promise - formerly Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) connects the faith community together to help families facing homelessness regain their housing, their independence, and their dignity. It offers an opportunity for volunteers of all faiths to reduce homelessness and transform lives. Families are referred to Family Promise through Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. Children are consistently part of every family unit in the program. Every four months St. Thomas Episcopal Church located in Park Hill on Dexter St. hosts up to 20 people for one week providing overnight lodging, evening meals and activities. Evening meals are prepared and served by various churches in Park Hill. Volunteers are also needed to serve as evening activity hosts and to spend one night at the church. This is a wonderful way to get to know homeless families in our community and to extend hospitality and a loving presence to these families. Montview adult volunteers currently prepare dinner on Monday night and Montview youth prepare dinner on Wednesday night. Staffing the program for the week at St. Thomas requires many volunteer hours. We need to build up our volunteer base for this program. It is a vital program in our Denver community. Families now make up 40% of the homeless population and one out of every four homeless people is a child. Please contact Betty Jennings at 303-321-3472 or Rev. Sheri Fry at fry@montview.org if you would like more information to become involved in this much needed program.

Shelter Denver Homeless Women

Montview is in the exploratory stages of partnering with the St. Francis Center, Denver's Road Home Program and the Capitol Hill United Ministries to work on the Women's Homeless Initiative. One night a week Montview would set up temporary sleeping space and provide dinner for up to 20 women. If you are interested in volunteering with this program please click here and fill out the interest form.

I will be visiting this program at the Capitol Heights Church at 11th and Fillmore on Wednesday night January 30th at 5pm.
There are a few spots open to come with me to visit the Capitol Hill church tomorrow night. Please rsvp to Fry@montview.org.

Peace,

Sheri

Hi everyone,

Arriving in your mailboxes soon will be Montview Church's 2012 Annual Report. As is true in any written or spoken report, it is impossible to feature every project or to thank every individual that is responsible for the good works within our special faith community. I apologize, again, for not being able to publicly thank each of you.

A larger than usual crowd assembled on Sunday for the Annual Meeting and for the fundraising breakfast for the youth group. They heard the good news of a church that is entering the new year in a much stronger position. The congregation elected the members of the Nominating Committee that will propose 2014's leadership classes of Elders and Deacons; elected its corporate officers; and heard of the successes and hopes of the 2012 and 2013 church years.

At the conclusion of the Annual Meeting, we showed one of the "Montview is My Place" videos that features some of our members reflecting on their journey at Montview. It was created by the Communications Committee. You can watch it by clicking here.

May God's blessings continue to flow to - and through - your family,

Tilman
