The Rev. Dr. Cynthia Cearley
Lead Pastor of Congregational Life
Friends,
As you know, we are in the process of creating a new church directory. This is not only a practical matter; it is a relationship matter. Having a directory helps each one of us come to know the names and faces of those with whom we share community here at Montview. If you haven't signed up to have your photo taken, we hope that you will. To schedule your appointment, go to www.pictorialservices.com or call 303-400-6023 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm for yourself or your family. As long as you have your photo taken by January 15th, you will be included in the Directory.
In addition, it's a great time to make sure that the church has your information correct in our database. If you could take a minute to call or email Stephanie DeFelice in our office (303-355-2095 X107 or membership@montview.org) and check your record with her, we can make sure that we have the correct address, phone and e-mail information for you and/or your family. For those with children, we would be happy to confirm age and grade level information.
Help us begin the new year with a beautiful and up-to-date church directory and accurate information so that we can continue to grow together in love as a Montview Community.
Blessings for this season of Advent.
Cindy

The Rev. Ian Gregory Cummins
Lead Pastor of Spiritual Life
Hi Everyone,
Our Lectio Divina passage for this week comes from Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist. It is part of a prophesy he spoke about his newborn son just after John's birth.
"And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people by the forgiveness of their sins. By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace."
As we prepare to light the second candle of Advent this Sunday, the Candle of Peace, we reflect on John's call to 'guide our feet in into the way of peace.' As followers of Jesus, just as John was, we are called to help guide this world into the way of peace. In our war-torn world that may seem an impossible task, but still we are called to do our part, however small it may be, to bring peace wherever we can. To do that we will have to do the equally hard work of fostering peace within ourselves. When we've taken the time to pray and meditate. When we refuse to get caught up in the rush and stress of the world, which is its own kind of violence, then our presence can be a source of peace to others. We become the candle of peace ourselves, refusing to be blown out and helping others to light their own candle. Take a few minutes today to just sit quietly and foster peace within yourself. It is a gift to yourself and to the world.
Grace and goodness,
Ian
