Minister of Children and Family

Dear Friends,

Recently a Montview parent shared these words from a friend who is a teacher. From this teacher's 15 years of classroom experience she said, "year after year the nicest and most polite children I work with attend Sunday School!" I loved receiving this reminder that our Sunday School lessons do ripple into the world beyond Sunday morning.

Each week this fall in classrooms filled to the brim, our children have learned and practiced a way of being. This way of kindness, acceptance and compassion can be quite different from the ways of the world. It stands in sharp contrast to putting conditions on worth and caring. It stands against the idea that competition and winning are most important. On Sunday morning, our children learn about serving others and trusting God in all things. They learn that their value is beyond question and that their gifts are many and varied and wonderful. On Sunday morning, our children learn the large meaning of love and think of ways to share it with themselves and others on all the other mornings, afternoons and nights of their week. They learn that love means respect. They learn that love means honesty. They learn that love means fairness. They learn that it means taking turns, sharing supplies, being good listeners, compromising, contributing and delighting in the contributions, successes and opportunities of others. We hope that your children are with us on these mornings. This is a very important curriculum, one for a lifetime.

If you would like more information about our program, please call or write. I would love to hear from you!

Peace and grace,
Sandy

Lead Pastor of Congregational Life

Friends,

Our Lectio for this week is 2 Corinthians 9:7

"Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."

Sunday, we have a chance to practice this text. I hope you will be at worship this week! We will gather to dedicate ourselves, our gifts and our promise of financial support to Montview for the coming year. As Ian reminded us last week, it is a time, not only of dedication, but of commitment - a time to summon the best within us for our life together as a community of faith.

It will also be a time of celebration. As each of you processes forward to place your pledge in the Stewardship Chest, it is a joyful sign of your faith and intention. It's a beautiful and moving procession. And this year, following worship, we have a chance to enjoy one another's company at a shared chili luncheon.

There is no agenda, other than to enjoy a meal together and celebrate the day. The chili will be provided by a restaurant in Stapleton - green chili (non-spicy variety for those who prefer it), rice, cheese and tortillas. The food is suitable for most children. It's sponsored by our Board of Deacons and will cost $5 per person.

We do need your reservation today or as soon as possible. Click here to RSVP to the chili luncheon and/or childcare.

I hope you will join us!

Blessings,

Cindy
