Meow. ... That guy that comes around on occasion brought my assistant candy and flowers. Valentine's Day? It seems to me that the important thing in February was Cat Health Month on the Internet. How did you celebrate?
I hope you all remembered to make an appointment for your feline employers to check in with the veterinarian and insure a healthy Spring.
Have you been on the Internet lately? YouTube is full of our antics, and I am personally partial to Henri - but of course, le chat noir! Such a handsome devil, so very like moi! How about that video of the cat flushing the toilet? I thought I'd give it a whirl, but my assistant does not understand that practice makes perfect. What's a little toilet paper here and there -- and the soap dish on the floor?
Cyberspace is demonstrating our importance to the world and our unique and endearing personalities. If you're smart, you'll agree.
And one last thing...every dog may have his day....but CATS RULE!

February is always such a short month, and this year we had so much going on, that it was March before we knew it. We decided to combine our February and March Newsletters so we could tell you everything all at once.
Have you visited the Winn Blog lately? It's an amazing resource filled with great information on cat health. Dr. Susan Little, past president and current board member manages the blog, and just updated the look. Dr. Vicki Thayer, board president, Dr. Glenn Olah, newest board member, and Dr. Melissa Kennedy, board member, are also frequent content contributors.
We are just about ready to announce the feline health studies selected for the next round of donor provided funding! Keep your eye out for an announcement later this month. In the meantime, we are busy getting back to the business of raising dollars to help fund the next round of studies.
To date, our Annual Campaign, which begins each May 1st and continues for 12 months has raised $366,216 toward our goal of $450,000. Won't you help us raise that last $83,783 over the next two months? And next year, we plan on raising even more.

Winn Grant Review Committee Meets in Texas to Decide Awards
Winn board members and their scientific advisors met in Houston on Saturday, February 9th, to review a record 59 proposals submitted by feline medical researchers in institutions around the world in order to select its 2013 feline health research awards. Some of the committee participants arrived on schedule, but some did not arrive at all due to the massive snowstorm that blanketed the northeastern part of the United States and Canada. Luckily, the marvel that is modern technology saved the day as the stranded reviewers were able to join the all day discussion by teleconference and the review was completed on schedule. The review was intense and especially difficult, as this particular grant cycle produced an exceptionally worthy group of proposals. As soon as all applicants have been notified, Winn will make a detailed announcement of the grant awards. Look for the announcement later in March. Nine proposals were selected, with research into some of the feline world's most vexing problems. The total of funding for all studies was $176,752. We thank all of our individual and corporate donors for making this funding possible. Our review committee does a wonderful job of honoring the intentions of our donors in considering each and every proposal and seeking those that meet the highest standards and will do the greatest good in serving our mission. |
A Special Thank You to Our Study Sponsors from 2012
Honoring individuals who support a particular study
Nearly every year Winn selects a few of its funded grant proposals, those thought to be of special interest, as research that can be sponsored. For a minimum donation of $250, individuals or groups join Winn in furthering research into vital areas of feline health. We are especially grateful to the sponsors of our 2012 study grants, and we acknowledge their generosity in furthering the Winn mission to help "every cat, every day."
