Dates, Locations Set for Records Review

Dates for the annual review of Session records (minutes and membership rolls) have been set by the Overtures and Records Work Group of the Leadership Team.  As in previous years, locations have been arranged around the Presbytery to make it as easy as possible for Clerks of Session and Moderators to attend.

The records review gatherings are planned for Thursdays (both afternoons and evenings) in October and November. A complete packet of information, including a cover letter, records review checklist, and copy of the updated 2012 Manual for Clerks of Session has been sent electronically to all Clerks and Moderators on August 16. Click on each of the links below for copies of these materials:

Retirement of Dennis and Linda Doerr

Presbytery took time to recognize and honor Dennis and Linda Doerr as they prepare to enter retirement December 31, 2012. More than a dozen members of Presbytery rose to remember and recognize Dennis for his strong leadership during 27 years at the First Presbyterian Church of Chittenango, with the Korean Partnership and in other Presbytery responsibilities. We voted to honor Dennis with Honorable Retirement on December 31st by acclamation.

Dennis and Linda, a retired Registered Nurse, own a home in Chittenango and will remain in the community and in the Presbytery.

Retiree Lunch

Twenty-five retirees and spouses from Utica Presbytery and Cayuga Syracuse Presbytery gathered at the Rusty Rain in Canastota, NY for a delightful lunch sponsored by the Board of Pensions. The Rev. Dr. Allison Seed, aseed@pensions.org, is the Regional Representative for the Synod of the Northeast. She came to talk about the programs of the Board and the support we give to our retirees. She then took questions from people at the luncheon.

Minimum Terms of Call

At its fall meeting October 13, 2012, the Presbytery established the Minimum Terms of Call for 2013. We encourage each church to carefully review these guidelines which include the Minimum Terms of Call for Christian Educators and Commissioned Ruling Elders. The terms of call for next year include two increases. We have increased the minimum for salary by 1.75% in light of a 1.7% increase in the cost of living and the Board of Pensions has increased the Pension Dues for Health Care by .75% in light of the continuing increases in the cost of health care.

Interim Ministry Training

Kathleen Waters reports that the Synod of the Northeast and Princeton Theological Seminary will be offering two Interim/Transitional Ministry Education events in 2013. One will be March 4-8, 2013 in New York City and the other October 14-18, 2013 at Princeton Seminary. For more information contact Kathleen or check the web site for Princeton Seminary Continuing Education.

Material for 2013 is not posted yet, but when it is ready, you will be able to find it at the Princeton Seminary Continuing Education site.

Stated Clerk

Gail Banks is no longer able to serve as Acting Stated Clerk. The Leadership Team is searching for a person to act in this interim capacity until we have a permanent Stated Clerk and hopes to have further information at the presbytery meeting. We would be happy to have volunteers inquire or to have you suggest people who might be right for this position.

A person must be a Teaching Elder or Ruling Elder in the PCUSA and must be knowledgeable about the polity of the Presbyterian Church.

Please direct Stated Clerk inquiries to Pete Shidemantle, Chair of the Leadership Team, or Sarah McTyre, Vice-Chair of the Leadership Team.
