Filing Deadlines Extended Due To Storm Sandy

Due to the continuing impact of Storm Sandy Governor Dannel P. Malloy has extended the filing deadline of personal property declarations to November 15, 2012.

Other Connecticut tax deadlines have been extended from October 31, 2012 to November 7, 2012. The taxes extended include the following:
  • Monthly and quarterly sales and use taxes
  • Income tax withholding
  • Alcoholic beverage tax
  • Admissions and dues tax
  • Electric generators tax
  • Various gross earnings taxes
President Obama has declared the following Connecticut counties to be disaster areas:
  • Fairfield
  • New Haven
  • Middlesex
  • New London
It is therefore anticipated that the Internal Revenue Service will extend the deadline for filing federal tax returns that are normally due this week. It is possible the extension will include tax returns due through November 15th, although no official announcement has been made yet.

Any taxpayer that is under hardship due to the storm can request the abatement of late filing or payment penalties if they are assessed.
