Top Pic: ACSEC Joint Resolution Signing 2014

On May 5th, 2014 the ACSEC hosted the second Joint Resolution Signing Event to celebrate a continued partnership effort towards protecting the Lowcountry's water resources through education. All partners received a plaque recognizing their dedication to the effort. Seen here is the amazing group of education partners. Read on to learn more about this event!
Tip of the Month: Install a Rain Gauge!
Monitor Rainfall to Make Irrigation Adjustments

Over-watering can injure certain plants, encourage weed growth and lead to more stormwater runoff. Typically speaking, about an inch of water a week is the right amount to keep your lawn and other plantings happy.  Keeping track of rainfall at your home can help determine if irrigation efforts are necessary. Visit the Clemson HGIC website for more tips on watering your grass, shrubs, trees and vegetable garden!
Special Announcements! Welcome!

The ACSEC Resolution Signing Event took place on May 5th at the Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park. We had representatives from our 3 county governments and 10 municipalities present to sign the joint resolution and demonstrate continued support of our regional stormwater education effort! Also participating were our wonderful education partners who were recognized for their tenacity and dedication to our communities and the health of our natural resources. This event occurs once every five years; the original Resolution Signing Took place in 2008, and the next will take place in 2019!

From Seeds to Shoreline Student Restoration Days
Ongoing March to June
Students from around the Lowcountry have been participating all spring in "From Seeds to Shoreline (S2S)" Restoration Days! Students from participating S2S schools began their project in October 2013, when they collected seeds of the Spartina alterniflora, our dominant salt marsh plant. Throughout the school year, schools involved in this student-driven wetland restoration project stored, germinated, and grew Spartina. All of the students attention and hard work is celebrated during a S2S Restoration Day where students plant their Spartina seedlings, often adjacent to an oyster reef restoration project, and take measurements so that growth can be tracked throughout the years. This project is a collaborative partnership effort developed to engage youth in salt marsh ecology and environmental stewardship.
Thank You! to the 27 schools and nearly 1600 students who participated in this years effort!
