Erin Hart and Paddy O'Brien 

Northwest Regional Library

 Northwest Regional Library is excited to bring author Erin Hart and musician Paddy O'Brien to our local libraries. This event is possible with funds available through the Arts and Cultural Heritage Legacy Grant.   

Erin Hart writes a series of archaeological crime novels set in the mysterious boglands of Ireland. Erin's debut novel, Haunted Ground, introduced readers to
pathologist Nora Gavin and archaeologist Cormac Maguire. Her writing has won and been

selected for numerous awards. Her latest book The Book of Killoween comes out March 5, 2013.

 

Paddy O'Brien

is a master of the two-row button accordion and has been awarded prestigious awards acknowledging him as such.Regarded by serious players and collectors of Irish traditional music as one of the tradition's most important repositories; in a musical career that spans more than forty years, he has collected more than 4,000 compositions-jigs, reels, hornpipes, airs, and marches, including many rare and unusual tunes, all stored in his memory.  

 

 

Join us for an afternoon of great Irish stories and songs.

Writing the Legacy of You Life 

Hallock Library

We are all creative and have interesting and important things to say. Get started writing about lessons learned along the path of life. It's important to share your unique wisdom with family and beloved friends. This workshop includes writing tips and starters, resources, discussion, the time to start writing, and information packet. Bring with you a favorite photo that tells a story, a recipe that says "tradition", a short poem or scripture that has meaning in your life. This is a fun and encouraging place to begin writing the legacy of your life!

 

Workshop leader is Karen Backlund, memoir writer. Her writing has appeared in local publications, her play Where's Karen? performed at the Fire Hall Theatre in Grand Forks, and she has led numerous sessions about journal writing.

Thief River Falls Poetry Contest 

Thief River Falls Library

 

Poets, young and old, and other creative writers and those of you who simply feel the urge to put your thoughts on paper, the Thief River Falls Library is sponsoring its annual Poetry Contest during the month of March. There will be two categories: adult, ages 14 and up and children, ages 5-13. The poems, up to one page in length and limited to two per contestant, can be on any subject suitable for a general audience. Entrants can submit their poems at the library desk; by mail to Poetry Contest, Thief River Falls Public Library, Box 674, Thief River Falls MN 56701; or email at draked@nwrlib.org. Please include title, name, age, address, and telephone number. Winning poems may be published in the Times and presented at an oral reading when the prizes will be rewarded. The contest closes March 22.
