Norwegian Nisser at Christmas 

Thief River Falls

 

Norwegian Nisser At Christmas by Gretchen Beito and Inez Mostue is on sale for $12 at the Thief River Falls Library. 

 

Nisser are mythical small, blue-gray-clad men and women with red stockings and red tasseled caps who live on Norwegian farms. They can be tricksters as well as benign, thoughtful creatures. 

 

In this book, Gretchen, with the story, and Inez, with her dolls posed for Christmas scenes, illustrate how the nisser Christmas is a reflection of rural 19th century rural Norwegian Christmas traditions. It's a delightful book for both children and adults who will enjoy the blend of Gretchen's story-telling ability with Inez's beautiful dolls.

Join us as we present the MN Crime Wave! Established in the fall of 2000, the Crime Wave consists of mystery writers
Ellen Hart, Carl Brookins, and William Kent Krueger. They will be talking about their craft and books! And, there's almost no truth to the rumor that the members of the Minnesota Crime Wave met because they have the same parole officer.
