The best known celebrities of our fame-fueled era might find it difficult to match the glamorous life and social standing of Kate Chase. In a time before cable and social media,This famous Cincinnati native commanded the attention of the nation and some of America's most powerful men, both during and after the Civil War era. Kate Chase was the daughter of Supreme Court Chief Justice and President Lincoln's Treasury Secretary Salmon P. Chase. Kate possessed beauty, charisma and political savvy that launched her ascent to the highest echelons of society.  Kate enjoyed a life of virtual royalty until it all came crashing down after an economic depression, a scandalous affair with a powerful senator and a sensational divorce.

Today, Kate rests near her father's grave in Spring Grove Cemetery. John Oller will elaborate on her turbulent life, with particular attention to her and her family's many Cincinnati connections.  This is a journey into her past and ours that will engage and intrigue.

After the lecture, meet author John Oller and purchase a signed copy of American Queen: The Rise and Fall of Kate Chase Sprague, Civil War "Belle of the North'"and Gilded Age Woman of Scandal.
