St. John on the Mountain

Annual Fall Concert by St. John's Festival Choir
Saturday, November 7th
The Choir hopes you will join them on Saturday evening, November 7th at 7:00 pm for their annual fall Concert.  This year, our Director Richard Morgan will be joined by Organist Joshua Stafford, St. Peter's Church, Morristown and soloists Debbie Smith and Joanne Dadd in a concert especially suited for the season - We Praise Thee!  The concert will include Franz Josef Haydn's exciting Te Deum in C Major, written for Marie Thérèse (daughter of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette), Hear My Prayer by Felix Mendelssohn, and Gabriel Fauré's lush setting of the Mass for women's voices Messe Basse.  Remember to invite your family and friends!  The Concert is only an hour and will be ending about 8:00 PM - plenty of time to take your friends and family out for a celebratory dinner at your favorite local restaurant!

Thanksgiving & Christmas Adopt-a-Family
Help save a struggling family's Thanksgiving and Christmas by providing an uncooked meal.  It's easy!  Just buy the makings for a meal, and deliver it uncooked to your Adopt-a-Family.  Please call Sue Kennedy at 908-234-0267 with any questions.  If you have a particular family you have been supporting in the past, please let Sue know so that she can inform the Food Bank.

Volunteer in November for the Somerset County Food Bank
Volunteers are needed to staff the Food Bank Pantry Saturdays in November from 9:30 am-11:30 am.  Tasks include interviewing clients, and bagging and distributing food.  The pantry is located at the rear of the United Reformed Church, 100 West Main Street in Somerville.  This is a great opportunity for older children, and community service hours will be given.  For more info or to sign-up email Sally Hespe.
Food for Fenn
The Outreach Commission has designated November "Food for Fenn" month in honor of its beloved leader, Fenn Putman, who died last summer.  Fenn was an inspiration to us all.  In recognition of this fine man we propose to flood the Food Bank with "Food for Fenn." We ask all parishioners to step to up their efforts this month and bring donations of food or money to provide for the hungry guests who arrive at the Food Bank in Somerville every Saturday morning. We have even provided commemorative shopping bags to encourage your efforts.
2016 Stewardship
By now you should have received your Stewardship letter for 2016.  If you haven't already done so, please return your 2016 Pledge Card ASAP, as the Vestry needs them to make their budget decisions for the upcoming year.  Extra pledge cards can be found on the web in the narthex or call the office 908-766-2282 to have one sent to you.
