Youth Mission Trip

July 19-21

Join us from July 19-21st in Rutland, MA at the Heifer's farm for a two night Global Gateway experience that creates an existence in which nothing - shelter, food, water or cooking fuel - can be taken for granted. Participants prepare a meal with limited resources and spend a night in the Global Village.  Grades 6 and up are eligible to attend.  Approximate cost will be $100 per person.  Additional program information can be found at Heifer.org.  Please email Sally Hespe or call (908) 875-1518 for more information and registration materials.

Praying in Lent:

Evening Prayer on Tuesdays with Potluck Supper

Tuesdays

On Tuesdays evenings at 6 pm, the community will gather for Evening Prayer in the Chapel, followed by a simple potluck supper.  Members of our community will preside at this simple service of prayer.  Bring a dish to share for supper, and come and allow the word of God to wash over you, and pray with the assembled community, as our ancestors did before us.  Join us on any Tuesday in Lent at 6 pm.  Mark your calendars for:  March 17th and 24th.

Ladies' Luncheon

Thursday, March 19th

All are invited to the Ladies' Luncheon on Thursday, March 19th at noon at the home of Sue Catlett, 20 Tanners Brook Road, Chester.  Please bring a sandwich; beverages and dessert will be provided.  We hope to see you there.  RSVP to Sue at 908 955-7109.

Collecting Coins During Lent

Save your coins!  The Sunday School children are collecting coins during Lent to fill their Heifer International banks. We hope to collect enough money to buy a cow, pig or some chicks to end hunger for a family in need.

Holy Baptism

Saturday, April 4th

We baptize primarily on those dates set aside for baptism, as listed in the Book of Common Prayer.  Since the presence of the community of faith is essential for welcoming the newly baptized into the church, baptisms take place in the principal service.  The next date for Baptism is on Saturday, April 4th at 7 pm during The Great Vigil of Easter.  Questions about baptism? Please contact the office or call 908-766-2282.

Easter Plants, Flowers, and Special Music

St. John on the Mountain is now accepting contributions for Easter plants, flowers, and special music.  Gifts may be given either as memorials or in thanksgiving.  So that we can publish all names in the Easter bulletins, we ask that you send in your donations by Friday, March 20th.  If you would like to contribute, please complete the form and return it to the Parish Office, along with a check made payable to St. John on the Mountain, with a note in the memo section:  Easter Flowers and Music.  If you have any questions, please email the Parish Office or call (908) 766-2282.

Food Bank Staffing

Saturdays in April

Volunteers are needed to staff the Food Bank Pantry Saturdays in April from 9:30 am to noon (April 4, 11, 18, 25).  Tasks include interviewing clients, and bagging and distributing food.  The pantry is located at the rear of the United Reformed Church, 100 West Main Street in Somerville.  This is a great opportunity for older children, and community service hours will be given.  The sign-up sheet is located on the bulletin board near Parish Hall or contact Sally Hespe.

Adopt-a-Family

Help a struggling family this Easter, by providing an uncooked meal.  It's easy!  Just buy the makings for a meal, and deliver to your Adopt-a-Family. The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board. For more information, email Sue Kennedy or call 908-234-0267. If there is a particular family that you have been supporting, please let Sue know so that she can inform the Food Bank.

The Paschal Triduum

April 2, 3, & 4

The Three Holy Days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Great Vigil of Easter, are the center of our Christian year and our common life. In these days we fully enter into the Mystery of the Passion, Death, and Glorious Rising of the Lord Jesus, who we know to be among us.  The liturgy is so rich that it takes three days to unfold.  We invite you to be with us as we celebrate the Paschal Triduum. Please consider honoring us with your presence and sharing with us in the Divine life of the Lord Jesus who has made us his Sacred Body in the world.
