Town Hall, hosted by the Wardens and Vestry

Sunday, November 30th

Join us on November 30th after the 10:00 a.m. service in the church for an open question and answer session. This is an opportunity to engage in open dialogue with the community. If you would like to submit questions in advance, please contact the office 908-766-2282 or Heather Leef.

Advent Wreath Making for ALL

Sunday, November 30th

Please join us on Sunday, November 30th as we make Advent Wreaths (in Parish Hall).  All materials will be supplied.  A $5 donation to help off-set the cost of supplies is greatly appreciated.

  • Children will make their wreaths at 10:00 (in lieu of Sunday School).
  • Adults are welcome to make theirs immediately following the 10:00am service.
November Food Bank Staffing

Saturdays

St. John parishioners will staff the Food Bank Pantry each Saturday in November from 9:45 am to noon. Located at the United Reformed Church, 100 West Main Street in Somerville.  All are invited, including older children, to help interview clients, bag and distribute food.  Sign-up sheets are located on the bulletin board near the Parish Hall kitchen.  For more information contact Sally Hespe.

Food For Fenn

The Outreach Commission has designated November 2014 "Food for Fenn" month in honor of its beloved leader, Fenn Putman, who died this summer. Fenn was an inspiration to us all. We remember his outstanding dedication to the hungry at the Food Bank Network of Somerset County and Grace's Soup Kitchen at Grace Church, Plainfield.  We ask all parishioners to step to up their efforts this month and bring donations of food or money to provide for the hungry guests who arrive at the Food Bank in Somerville every Saturday morning. We have even provided commemorative shopping bags to encourage your donation efforts.

Thanksgiving & Christmas Adopt-a-Family

Help save a struggling family's Thanksgiving and Christmas by providing an uncooked meal.  It's easy!  Just buy the makings for a meal, and deliver it uncooked to your Adopt-a-Family.  A sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board near Parish Hall.  Please call Sue Kennedy at 908-234-0267 with any questions.  If you have a particular family you have been supporting in the past, please let Sue know so that she can inform the Food Bank.

2015 Stewardship

By now you should have received your Stewardship letter for 2015.  If you haven't already done so, please return your 2015 Pledge Card ASAP, as the Vestry needs them to make their budget decisions for the upcoming year.  Extra pledge cards can be found in the narthex or call the office 908-766-2282 to have one sent to you.

Church Buddies

The Sunday School is still looking for 7th graders and up to become a buddy with a child in the Pre-K/K class.  Once a month the older children will "shadow" their buddies and attend chapel time and Sunday School with them, sit in church with them, and hang out with them after church during coffee hour. It will be a great experience for the older kids and a special treat for our younger buddies. We hope to get the program started as soon as possible. If your child is able to help us in this important ministry by "shadowing" a buddy, please email Devon McKeon or Lynn Mitchell and your child will be matched up with someone. This is a great way to earn community service hours, and we are hoping that this will make a positive difference in our church's youth community.
