Adult Christian Formation this Sunday
Join us this Sunday, April 13th
for Part Three of a Three-part Series
on Initiation into the
Body of Christ Through Baptism
immediately following the 10:00 service
This year at St. John's we will have a three-part adult formation series on initiation into the Body of Christ through Baptism. We will also talk about the Eucharist as the on-going way God strengthens the once-and-for-all bonds established in baptism. We will also spend one Sunday exploring Confirmation: a rite that was originally part of baptism but for many cultural reasons was split off into a separate thing. The Church is still trying to figure out what it is and what to do with it!

The Paschal Triduum - April 17th, 18th, & 19th
The Three Holy Days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Great Vigil of Easter, are the center of our Christian year and our common life. In these days we fully enter into the Mystery of the Passion, Death, and Glorious Rising of the Lord Jesus, who we know to be among us. The liturgy is so rich that it takes three days to unfold. The Rector, Wardens, Vestry, Staff, and People of St. John on the Mountain invite you to be with us as we celebrate the Paschal Triduum. Please consider honoring us with your presence and sharing with us in the Divine life of the Lord Jesus who has made us his Sacred Body in the world.

Feeding America Backpack Program
The Outreach Committee urges you to help hungry children this Lent and Easter season by participating in the Backpack Program. This program, that operates in conjunction with the Food Bank of Somerset County, fills backpacks to be taken home by students who depend on school meal programs during the week and do not have enough to eat on the weekends. Think of the hungry kids each time you go to the supermarket and for just a couple of dollars you can purchase something from the list below. Please place your donations into the large, clearly labeled container in the hallway. The contributions will be collected each week and taken to the food bank where volunteers sort them into the backpacks. They are then distributed to schools, where on Fridays, school nurses give them to the students. Please help by providing any of the following items:
- Fruit/applesauce cups
- Raisins
- Box of oatmeal packets
- Box of granola bars
- Ramen noodles
- Juice boxes
- Chef Boyardee meals
- Individual serving-size boxes of cereal
- Easy Mac & Cheese
- Single-serving milk boxes (non-perishable only)
- Gallon ziplock slider bags
- pudding snack packs (non-perishable only)
|
Volunteer for the Somerset County Food Bank. Join us each Saturday in April from 9:30 am to noon at the United Reformed Church at 100 West Main Street in Somerville. Work entails interviewing clients, and bagging and distributing groceries. This is a great opportunity for students to earn their community service hours. For more information, please contact Sally Hespe.

St. John's Intergenerational Choir
We will be preparing an anthem to sing on Sunday, May 4th. As it was at Christmas, the SJIC is open to everyone; children, adults, parents, aunts, uncles, friends and significant others! Those of you who are not already in the choir may simply come forward to join the choir during the exchange of the Peace (no vestments needed) and then return to your seats in the congregation following the anthem. Rehearsals will be about 20 minutes following the services on April 13th and April 27th. Music will be available at those rehearsals or can be emailed to you directly. We hope you will join us.
