The Third Sunday in Lent

Adult Christian Formation this Sunday

Three-part Series on Initiation into the

Body of Christ Through Baptism

March 23, March 30, and April 6,

immediately following the 10:00 service

This year at St. John's we will have a three-part adult formation series on initiation into the Body of Christ through Baptism.  We will also talk about the Eucharist as the on-going way God strengthens the once-and-for-all bonds established in baptism.  We will also spend one Sunday exploring Confirmation:  a rite that was originally part of baptism but for many cultural reasons was split off into a separate thing.  The Church is still trying to figure out what it is and what to do with it!

Evening Prayer on Tuesdays: Praying in Lent

March 25th, April 1, April 8

On Tuesdays evenings at 6 pm, the community will gather for Evening Prayer in the Chapel, followed by a simple pot-luck supper. Members of our community will preside at this simple service of prayer.  Bring a dish to share for supper, and come and allow the word of God to wash over you, and pray with the assembled community, as our ancestors did before us.

Healing Service on Thursday, March 27th

The Holy Eucharist with Prayers for Healing will take place on Thursday, March 27th at noon in the chapel. This simple service of prayer, Holy Communion, and the laying on of hands for those who desire it, is an extension of the ministry of the Pastoral Care Committee.   All are welcome.

Grace Soup Kitchen - Friday, March 28th

Grace Soup Kitchen serves 1,000 hot nutritious meals the last five days of each month to the hungry of Plainfield.  St. John on the Mountain parishioners help on the last Friday of each month.  Join us on Friday, March 28th as we prepare and serve lunch from  10 am - 1 pm.

Sign-up sheets are on bulletin board outside kitchen or contact Fenn Putnam or Sally Hespe

April Food Bank Staffing

Volunteer for the Somerset County Food Bank.  Join us each Saturday in April from 9:30 am to noon at the United Reformed Church at 100 West Main Street in Somerville.  Work entails interviewing clients, and bagging and distributing groceries.  This is a great opportunity for students to earn their community service hours. For more information, please contact Sally Hespe.

Baptism on Saturday, April 19th

We baptize primarily on those dates set aside for baptism, as listed in the Book of Common Prayer.  Since the presence of the community of faith is essential for welcoming the newly baptized into the church, baptisms take place in the principal service on the appointed Sunday.  Questions about baptism?  Please contact the office 908-766-2282 or office@sjotm.org. The 2014 dates for Holy Baptism

  • Saturday, April 19th - The Great Vigil of Easter
  • Sunday, June 8th - The Day of Pentecost
  • Sunday, November 2nd - All Saints' Sunday
