The First Sunday after Christmas

Grace's Soup Kitchen on Friday, Dec 27

Join us as we prepare and serve lunch from 10 am - 1 pm at Grace's Soup Kitchen in Plainfield.  We help on the last Friday of each month.   The kids are not in school on Friday, December 27th.  This is a great day for them to earn community service hours.  For more information contact fennironia@earthlink.net or Sally Hespe sallyhespe@aol.com

Lessons & Carols on Sunday, Dec 29

Join us on Sunday, December 29th at 10:00 am when we will continue to celebrate the Christmas season with the reading of the nine lessons.  The Choir of St. John on the Mountain will lead us in the singing of our favorite Christmas Carols.  It is truly a family service as we begin with the journey of Adam and Eve in the garden, hear the promise of the prophets and are once again inspired by the birth of Jesus as told to us in the Gospels.  Many familiar carols, sung by all of us, and a few remarkable new ones, sung by The Choir, are interspersed with the readings.

End of Year Giving and Pre-Paid Pledges

There are a few more days to capitalize on the 2013 IRA rollover tax provision, which allows owners of retirement accounts ages 70.5 years or older to donate up to $100,000 of IRA assets to charity and save on taxes. The tax provision expires Dec. 31, and Congress has not announced whether it will be reauthorized for 2014 or not.

With the many tax increases that took effect this year, the IRA rollover is an especially attractive provision for individuals considering planned gifts. The rollover allows IRA-owners to donate IRA assets without reporting the withdrawal as taxable income. It can also count toward the annual required minimum distribution that people 70.5 or older must take from a traditional IRA.

2014 Stewardship

As of  December 23rd, we have 107 pledges for $326,175.  Our goal is to increase participation from last year's 113 pledges and reach a total of $362,000 for 2014.  If you have any questions about Stewardship, please contact Chip Baird or Bob Courtemanche.

If you haven't already done so, please return your 2014 Pledge Card, as the Vestry needs them to make their budget decisions for the upcoming year.  Click here to read the 2014 Stewardship Letter.  Extra pledge cards can be found in the narthex or click here to download or email the office to have one sent to you.

You can also donate Stocks to SJOTM. We would be happy to accept stock donations for 2014 as form of  pledge payment. The tax advantages of giving stock, instead of cash, to church can make doing so very worthwhile.  To learn more, please contact Lisa Keenan in the office at 908-766-2282 ext 13 or by email at L.Keenan@SJOTM.org.

2013 Pledge Tax Credit

Pledge payments for the calendar year 2013 will need to be received in the office or post marked by December 31, 2013 in order to receive tax credit for the current year.

Baptisms on January 12th

We baptize primarily on those dates set aside for baptism, as listed in the Book of Common Prayer.  Since the presence of the community of faith is essential for welcoming the newly baptized into the church, baptisms take place in the principal service on the appointed Sunday. The next day for Baptism is Sunday, January 12th at 10:00 am.  Questions about baptism?  Please contact Mo. Susan at rector@sjotm.org.
