The Last Sunday after Pentecost: Christ the King

2014 Stewardship

As of Wednesday, November 20th, we have 73 pledges for $241,965.
Our goal is to increase participation from last year's 113 pledges and reach a total of $362,000 for 2014.  If you have any questions about Stewardship, please contact Chip Baird or Bob Courtemanche.

If you haven't already done so, please return your 2014 Pledge Card, as the Vestry needs them to make their budget decisions for the upcoming year.  Click here to read the 2014 Stewardship Letter.  Extra pledge cards can be found in the narthex or click here to download or email the office to have one sent to you.

You can also donate Stocks to SJOTM. We would be happy to accept stock donations for 2014 as form of  pledge payment. The tax advantages of giving stock, instead of cash, to church can make doing so very worthwhile.  To learn more, please contact Lisa Keenan in the office at 908-766-2282 ext 13 or by email at L.Keenan@SJOTM.org.

Adult Ed this Sunday, November 24th

For several weeks this fall, Father Malloy has taught us much about our heritage as Episcopalians, beginning with exploring our first Prayer Book.  This week we will reflect on our own experiences of worship, and how our own worship space shapes and forms us here on the Mountain.  The Rector will facilitate a dialogue about our own experiences of our life of common prayer in our treasured sacred space on Sunday, November 24th immediately following 10:00 am worship.

November Food Bank Staffing Every Saturday in November

St. John parishioners will staff the Food Bank Pantry each Saturday in November from 9:45 am to noon. Located at the United Reformed Church, 100 West Main Street in Somerville. Click here for directions.  All are invited, including older children, to help interview clients, bag and distribute food.  Call Fenn Putman 973-543-7017 to let him know which Saturdays you can work.

Pick-Up Your Thanksgiving Pies

Pick-up your Thanksgiving pies this Sunday, November 24th during coffee hour.  If you didn't order a pie, it's still not too late.  There will be some Apple, Pumpkin, and Pecan Pies available for sale.

Children's Choir - Christmas Music

All children are welcomed and encouraged to rehearse some old favorites and some great new music every Sunday after the 10 am service in preparation for the Christmas Pageant and for the 5 pm Christmas Eve Service.  Look for Mr. Morgan in the Choir Room or at the organ console.  Parents, we are in need of your support by  bringing your children to rehearsal to allow for adequate preparation time.  Little ones are welcome to come too and practice singing Away in a Manger and Angels We Have Heard on High.

Thanksgiving Adopt-a-Family

Help save a struggling family's Thanksgiving by providing an uncooked meal.  It's easy!  Just buy the makings for a meal, and deliver it uncooked to your Adopt-a-Family.  A sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board near Parish Hall.  Please call Sue Kennedy at 908-234-0267 or email with any questions.  If you have a particular family you have been supporting in the past, please let Sue know so that she can inform the Food Bank.

Grace's Soup Kitchen Friday, Nov 29th

Join us as we prepare and serve lunch from 10 am - 1 pm at Grace's Soup Kitchen in Plainfield.  We help on the last Friday of each month.   The next two dates that we will serve are Friday, November 29th and Friday, December 27th.  Both of these dates are during school vacations.  It's a great opportunity for youth to earn some community service hours.  For more information contact fennironia@earthlink.net or Sally Hespe sallyhespe@aol.com

Advent Wreath Making for ALL on Sunday, December 1st

Sunday school children will be making Advent Wreaths at 10 am on Sunday, December 1st in Parish Hall (in lieu of Sunday School).  All materials will be supplied.  A $5 donation to help off-set the cost of supplies is greatly appreciated.

Adults are welcome to make theirs immediately following the 10:00 am service.

Plaid House Stocking Stuffers Donations Needed

The knitters will be having their annual Plaid House girls' gift packaging party on Thursday, December 5, at 10:30 in the meeting room.  They need donations of stocking stuffer type gifts (ages 14 through 18) to add to the packages.  Last year, they gave the girls knitted mitts and headbands, earrings crafted from beads, and lots of candy.  This year's knitted gifts are cowls.  They package and deliver 10 gift bags for their annual Christmas party.  Please leave any donations in the meeting room by December 5 with your name for acknowledgement.  Thank you from the knitting group and the Plaid House girls!

Healing Service on Thursday, Dec. 5

The Holy Eucharist with Prayers for Healing will take place on on Thursday, December 5th at noon in the chapel.  This simple service of prayer, Holy Communion, and the laying on of hands for those who desire it, is an extension of the ministry of the Pastoral Care Committee. All are welcome.
